Background: The name Macnab derives from the Gaelic ‘Mac an Aba’, ‘child of the abbot’. Abaruadh, the Red Abbot, was descended from King Fergus of Dalriada and a nephew of St Fillan, founder of the monastery in Glendochart in the seventh century.
