Plymouth as celtic center of culture, What percentage of plymouth is celtic?

Azelb, welcome to the forum! At the risk of showing my ignorance, please allow me to ask what exactly is your post about? The only Plymouth that I know about is in Plymouth Massachusettes, one of our first settlements begun by Pilgrims who came to the New World on the Mayflower. Now can you tell me more regarding the subject you have posted about?

Perhaps I can search the 'Net and find some links to post regarding this issue.

I think I'm with you KY I'm not that up on Celtic culture either being my prime insterest is Scotland so cannot make a proper vote choice.

I would like to find the remains of Celtic culture in Plymouth and Cornwall.  Especially the records of families who have lived there before Cornwall became Devonshire.  I am doing genealogical research.  If I can find a study of Celtic surnames of Plymouth and their meanings I would be overjoyed. Or just Celtic Surnames and their meanings.  Or just Celtic surnames.

Well to partly answer your question there is also a plymouth England in fact I believe (though could be wrong) The the US version got it's name from the English city.

The original Plymouth is in England in the county of Devon which borders of Cornwall. It holds a large naval base, where the bulk of the British Fleet sits.
It was bombed extensively during the 2nd World War, & lost most of it's old town centre.

I live about 20 miles from Plymouth, Massachusetts! My hometown is Braintree, MA which I am almost positive was named after a town in England. Perhaps you can verifiy as the resident expert on your geography!

Well as I understand the Plymouth port was taken from Cornwall as punishment for the rebellions.  
Now that the tin mines are closed there is no income for the district of Cornwall.  If Plymouth was returned to Cornwall there would be a resource for this area and a means of support for the economy.

This post begain when I was searching for my ancestors and found a book that said they came from Plymouth and were celtic, Cornish.  Then I went to celtic sites for england to find if there were any of the family left in Plymouth.  I was told that there were no celtic people in Plymouth and that Plymouth never was part of Cornwall.  This seems odd to me.

Right3 things re. Plymouth & Cornwall. Cornwall is a county on the Western tip of mainland Britain.
Plymouth is on the east of the Taymar River, Cornwall is on the west The Taymar is the natural boundary so it is unlikely that Portsmouth was ever part of Cornwall. The main "Industry" in Cornwall is tourism, one of the biggest attractions is The Eden Project http://www.edenproject.com/
There are China Clay quarries but the Tin Mines have long gone.
