It all started with no starting. The battery was stone dead. Check the lights. Check the radio. Curse and sputter. Lather, rinse, repeat.
The T-bird isn't going anywhere today. I could push it out and jump it with the jeep. Nah, I'll call in to work and tell them I'll be an hour late this morning. Wait for Ange to finish getting ready, and off we go.
So I drop her off at work, get my kiss goodbye, and I'm on my way to the freeway. The big square marshmallow gets up to 90, and I pop her into OD. Ok, better not speed too much here. This is the bussiest part of the whitemud freeway.
Aaaaalright. Pull over. I know what's wrong already. And there it is. A flat. The bussiest part of the freeway durring rush hour. Of course. Well, let's get this show on the road.
Nope. The jack's not going to work here. Let's try under the axle. Ah, that's better. hmh. This spare doesn't seem too firm. Better let the truck down and see. Oh. Perfect. The spare's flat. Well, not flat, but too low to drive on.
I limp the Jeep to the nearest gas station. Wherever that is. I don't know Terwillegar from a hole in the ground. After 15min, at 40kph, I find one, and pull in. Fill her up till she sits square. Looks good, but since there's no preassure guage on this thing, who knows.
OFF TO WORK!!!
but of course, the train.
So, how was your morning?

Compassion is the sometimes fatal capacity for feeling what it is like inside somebody else's skin. It is the knowledge that there can never really be any peace and joy for me until there is peace and joy finally for you too. - Frederick Buechner
If society prospers at the expense of the intangibles, how can it be called progress?
Flat tire, hmm? Me, too. Yep, the tire I bought yesterday to replace the one found to have tread separation (with the steel belts showing!) was flat this morning. After putting on the doughnut (note to self: replace doughnut with full size spare at first opportunity), I putt-putted down to the tire place. I was greeted by a fellow who obviously hadn't had his morning coffee yet. I was informed that they had moved all the tires inside and would have to move them back outside again before they could open and get to the fix-a-flat machine. They were really in a hurry. I could tell. Thirty minutes later, they decided that the problem was the valve stem, and charged me $5 for a new one. This after I spent $20 yesterday on their used tire. They don't take Viisa, and I didn't have any cash on me because I had changed clothes so I wouldn't ruin my suit while changing the tire. So, I had to go home, get cash, change clothes and go back to the tire store to pay them for the valve stem before going to work. I guess I could have skipped out without paying for the stem, but I'm just honest that way. I do feel a bit ripped-off that I had to pay to have a tire I bought just yesterday fixed. At least it's still full of air. I know. I just checked.
Why is it that tires seem to go out on me on Sunday when nothing's open but Bubba's MayPop Tire Store?

I had a tough morning. Up at 5:30 (an hour later than usual). Suck coffee and play on the internet till 7:30. Breakfast. 8:00 mow front yard. 9-1 play my latest game (Balder's gate II). 1:10, off to the local lake to let my doggie chase a stick. Plan to be at the gym by 3. 4:30 home to have dinner. One of these days I am going to have to go back to work, but in the meantime, I get a lot of mileage out of being unemployed.
