Is anyone beside me going to the Ohio Scottish Games next Saturday, 6/26/04? If you are maybe we could hookup. I'll be there with my pipe band, the St. Andrew's Pipe
Band of Detroit.

Let me know!

Cheers!

Where in Ohio?

There's a dear little plant that grows in our Isle
Twas St . Patrick himself, sure, that set it;
And the sun of his labour with pleasure did smile,
And with dew from his eye often wet it.
It grows through the bog, through the brake, through the
Mireland, and they call it the dear little shamrock of Ireland.

It's at the Lorraine County Fairgrounds, just southwest of Oberlin. Here's a map:

tsargent62,

I am a tenor with the Fort Wayne Scottish Pipes and Drums. We will not be at the Ohio Scottish Games. We spent the last two weekends at Scottish games (Fort Wayne, IN and Chicago) and we are taking a weekend off.

However, we WILL be at the Detroit games in August! You can't miss me - I will probably be the only pregnant tenor at the games!

Hope to see you there!

Well, I will definitely see you in Detroit. I play with the St. Andrew's PB, so we're the host band. I'm the lead drummer. I've probably seen you there before.

Finally, another pipe band person! As far as I know, you and I are the only ones in the forum.

Todd,

My husband is also a sidedrummer. He was interested in Scottish drumming, joined a pipe band, and dragged me along for the ride. I became a tenor shortly after, and haven't looked back since!

What grade is St. Andrew's? Do you compete in solos? What grade drummer are you?

I look forward to meeting you in August!

Lori,

St. Andrew's is a Grade 3 band. Back in the 70s and 80s we played in Grade 2, but lost a bunch of people for various reasons, so we decided to go down to Grade 3. As for myself, when I competed in solos in the 80s I played in Grade 1. I'm planning on returning to solos next summer.

How long have you been playing? Was your husband a drummer before joining a pipe band?

Todd,

I have been playing for 8 years. If I practiced more, I would be much better.

My husband was a percussion major in college. He attended the Balmoral School and was introduced to Scottish drumming. He's been hooked since.

I'll be out of town for a while and will not see your posts. See you in Detroit!
