We are trying a little experiment on our front page located at http://www.celticradio.net.

Last night we added a chat box which automatically connects to our chat room. This is a java application, so when you get the popup screen that tells you to run the java chat by jpilot, simply click yes or run and make sure to click "always trust", so you do not get this screen each time you come to Celtic Radio.

We've always made some changes to our frontpage so you can leave this page open and only the song information refreshes, so staying on this page you can chat and also see what the current song information is.

Its also fun to see people logging in and coming and going. If you click on the persons name you can send a special Instant Message and there is also profile information, but that is not working yet - we'll get there though.

Enjoy!

Ah, so that explains the expired certificate warnings I got today. I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.6, Windoze 2000, and the warning was:

Security warning
Do you want to trust the signed applet distributed by "JPilot Software Company"?
Publisher authenticity verified by "Thawte Consulting cc"
The security certificate was issued by a company that is trusted.
The security certificate has expired or is not yet valid.
Caution: "JPilot Software Company" asserts that this content is safe. You should only accept this content if you trust "JPilot Software Company" to make that assertion. When I click More Details, I get:

Field Value
Version: V3
Signature Algorithm: MD5withRSA
Validity: From Friday Jan 16 03:14:49 EST 2004
to Sun Jan 16 03:42:18 EST 2005

I received the same message. If you look at the first window it will tell you that it is from celticradio.net.

It pretty much locks my Firefox up though, even if you close it, it leaves an instance running in the background, have to bring up processes in Task Manager and kill it there. For now, I'm avoiding the front page by using history to find my way to other pages here.

We will see if we can get our own certificate for that applet. We do have a digital certificate that we are not yet using, but will be in the future.

This does bring up an important point which probably pertains more so to Celtic Radio than other sites. We have developed the Celtic Radio website with certain minimum requirements. In addition, alot of products such as zone alarm, mcaffee, spyware protectors, norton, etc. have features that block alot of content and making your browsing secure.

You need to make sure to open these up to CelticRadio.net and CelticHearts.com.

While we will try to make our site compatible with most browsers, the best way to view it is with Windows, Internet Explorer, Javascript, Java, Cookies enabled and a resolution of 1028x768.

Yes it will work with other operating system and other browsers, but we simply do not have the resources to make it 100% compatible with every setup.

Is this supposed to pop up when you go to the forums index? It does for me, and frankly, I find it quite annoying.

Thanks for everyones feedback on this. We have decided to stop the automatic loading of this chat box and instead have moved it to the launch upon using the chat links in the forum.
