Castles were very common in the Middle Ages and I found this really nice website with Welsh castles. So I thought I'd post it. Let me know how you like it!

Well, I have spent almost all day just on the site greenldydragon posted and all of the castles rock, I need some plane tickets now and I will be set..... tongue.gif I do have a hard time looking at the pictures of just dirt and grass where a castle once stood but hey it is an awesome view. I wonder if all the castles are really big, in the movies the castles look like they could hold a whole village but the pictures on the site make the castles look like oversized houses. So, just how big are the castles???

Aragorn,

Most castle will surprise you. They are small places. Those that could hold a whole village became towns and then major cities. The walls were eventually pulled down to make houses.

Traveling thru europe looking at castles is great fun, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, and Germany have some great castles.

So Cool!! Thanks for posting this. One of my ancestors came from Aber on the north coast between the castles Beaumaris and Conwy. I love it when I can see pictures of the land they lived in.

I see the majestic beauty in a lot of the castles shown on the site. It just surprises me that they look so small. I am using the movies as a reference which by the looks of the castles is grossly enlarged. I think Lord of the rings really depicted a castle very well in The Two Towers. They are small but very well fortified. It is interesting to see that most castles were transformed into villages and major cities. It is just too bad more castles were not saved and restored for future generations. A rich history slowly decaying and becoming forgotten.

[FONT=Arial]For seven years now iv'e lived near Abeystwyth castle and from the moment i saw it i felt i belonged there.I often go and sit among the ruins,it gives me inspiration for my poetry. One spring day i was sitting there when suddenly i felt a sharp stabbing pain in my left shoulder. All of a sudden i felt like a reporter in a different era before Owain Glyndwr (sorry i can't spell his name)day(i think!)There was a campsite with a fire blazing and around it sat women and children huddled together to keep warm and all around the battle was raging.Men were shouting, swords clanging and arrows being hurled through the air.All of a sudden one hit me in the left shoulder and i was fatally injured.
Now for years iv'e suffered pernament pain in that shoulder. What do you make of this! rolleyes.gif
