Bill Smith is an evangelist I met at a Missions Conference a few years ago in Ohio. One of his daughters writes to Keturah, my 11-year-old. Bill and his wife, Reesa, have seven children (just like us as a matter of fact).

Bill and his wife had just returned from a missions trip to Africa with their oldest daughter. They were in Canada picking up their other children and driving their pickup truck to Kelowna to get their fifth-wheel. Bill lost control of the truck and rolled down a forty foot embankment. Reesa was ejected from the pickup truck and passed away before the paramedics could arrive. Miraculously, Bill and the kids only suffered bumps and scratches.

Please pray for this dear family. The accident happened a few days before Christmas. It is devastating to lose a wife and mother at any time, but it sure makes this season of the year tough for them.

This man is a good man who has faithfully preached the 'word of God for many years. His wife was a delightful lady and the kids are wonderful. I was grieved to the point of almost being sick when I got word. Thanks in advance fro praying for this family. Lord bless and have a great day.

haynes9, you know I’m not a praying man, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t share your grief. Take care. JC

This is such a terrible story, at any time, but how much harder at this time of year. My sincerest wishes for the family are that they begin soon to find some peace and understanding, a comforting of their pain, and no greater test to their sustaining faith than they can bear, now that they need it so much. For you -- well, haynes, for you the same. I can sense how much this must have affected you.

I don't know how I missed this post, but I will surely keep them in my prayers. I feel so sorry for the family, especially since it was around the holidays.

Hello haynes9,

Just a note to let you know that Mona and I will certainly keep Bill and all his children in our prayers - it is so wonderful that Bill and Reesa, as well as their children know and are known by God - as we sang this last week in church: "Many things about tomorrow, I don't seem to understand, but I know Who holds tomorrow, and I know Who holds my hand!"

Blessings of peace and love!

Haynes9, I'm so sorry for your friends, and will remember them in prayer. And you also, I know the pain you must feel now. May the Lord bless your friend Bill and his children, and may he bless you also.

Thank you so much, everyone, for your prayers and concern for Bill Smith and his family. I am pasting a post I read on anther forum that gave a brief report on the funeral, which was held on December 30th in Xenia, Kansas. The names mentioned won't mean anything to you, but I have included them so the flow of the report is natural.

There was a very large turnout today for the funeral. The fellowship hall on the back of the auditorium was packed, the auditorium, foyer, and nursery were full, and there were folks outside as well.

It was a blessing to see so many friends from OBC days. Bro. Marshall, Bro. Workman, Russell McKay, the Smiths, Lalmans, Dice's, Matt Nelson, Dr. Vineyard, Bro. Ross, Bro. Van Manen, Bro. Finn, Randy Smith as well as many from deputation days. While the funeral service was very good, the graveside service was powerful though short...it was raining. Bill spoke and the girls were able to sing a song, "Walk on" I believe was the name of it. It was one they would sing with their mom while traveling.

It is interesting to m that the song that was mentioned, Walk On, is a song that we as a family have sung in several meetings over the years. I'm not trying to make this post a novel, but the words are so powerful, I thought I would share them with you.

Sometimes your pathway
May through uncertainty lie
He will crown your faith with victory,
If in Him, we will abide.

Chorus:
Walk on, walk on for Jesus,
Walk on in His Name,
Lifting high the blood stained banner,
Walk on in His Name.

Walk on through the shadows,
Where doubts and fears reside,
Circumstances seem to tell you,
That there's no reason to try.

Hi Mark,

I appreciate the time you've taken to write about Bill and his family - believe me, there's no need to worry about writing a lot on this topic - we truly need to support each other and prayer is the way! I also appreciate the words to the song, Walk On - I never heard the song before, but will be looking it up and trying to get the melody so I can use it in church.

Because of your posting, many prayers are raising heavenward to God for peace and comfort during this time of tragedy - thank you.

Hello Mark, The large turn out at the Funeral for Reesa Smith, Speaks well of her as a person. It truly shows that she touched the lives of many people, and now she has gone on to be with the Lord and all those who went before her. Bill and his children remain ever in my prayers. As do you and yours.

thanks so much for sharing, Haynes. My prayers and thoughts are with you all for comfort at this very difficult time.

I had never heard the song, Walk On, before. The lyrics are really beautiful. The only "Walk On" song I have heard is from U2 and their lyrics are beautiful as well. Three of the members of U2 are Christians and most of the songs that Bono writes are written in a Christian perspective. Well, I hope this is not inappropriate, but wanted to share these lyrics to a song by the same name as well. Hope you don't mind.

Walk On by U2

And love is not the easy thing
The only baggage you can bring...
And love is not the easy thing...
The only baggage you can bring
Is all that you can't leave behind

And if the darkness is to keep us apart
And if the daylight feels like it's a long way off
And if your glass heart should crack
And for a second you turn back
Oh no, be strong

Walk on, walk on
What you got they can’t steal it
No they can’t even feel it
Walk on, walk on...
Stay safe tonight

You're packing a suitcase for a place none of us has been
A place that has to be believed to be seen
You could have flown away
A singing bird in an open cage
Who will only fly, only fly for freedom

Walk on, walk on
What you've got they can't deny it
Can’t sell it, can’t buy it
Walk on, walk on
Stay safe tonight

And I know it aches
And your heart it breaks
And you can only take so much
Walk on, walk on

Home... hard to know what it is if you’ve never had one
Home... I can’t say where it is but I know I'm going home
That's where the hurt is

I know it aches
How your heart it breaks
And you can only take so much
Walk on, walk on

Leave it behind
You've got to leave it behind
All that you fashion
All that you make
All that you build
All that you break
All that you measure
All that you steal
All this you can leave behind
All that you reason
All that you sense
All that you speak
All you dress up
All that you scheme...
