Whitemagic from www.digitalblasphemy.com on my X desktop. I forget which one I'm using at work and on my home XP desktop right off, but both atr digitalblasphemy prints.
I think it's Friends of the night at work. At various times I've also used Rite of Spring, and Spellcraft. During my NightHawk training, I was using a nice pic of Schloss Neuschwanstein. I've found some better ones in some old slides and negatives that my dad took. Milling over doing a collage of Ludwig's Castles to use as desktop wallpaper. Except I'd like to do them all of pics my dad has taken, and it's hard to find a good one of all of them for some odd reason :/ We spent three years there, and that was dad's second time... You'd think there'd be plenty of appropriate pics...

I go between the picture of my avatar or the words of whatever song is my favorite or one I can relate to at the time. If I do change I like to go to webshots.com. That is where I found my avatar, under Eye for Art.

Some amazing images here smile.gif Reminding me how I wish I had space on my desk for dual-head (multiple monitors) And run one wallpaper across both of them! I keep thinking to change from WhiteMagic on this machine, but I have my WindowMaker theme set to match it so well... And I keep working on a mosaic of Ludwig II's Castles to use at work. Haven't gotten anything I'm happy with yet. Maybe I should save this config and try something else anyway... Maybe even a new Window Manager...

My desktop is constantly changing. I have set the Desktop to Random Picture from a folder of decent or interesting pictures I have encountered on the web over the years. There are currently 173 pictures in the folder.

Many came from a service known as Perfect Vision. As far as I know, they are no longer in business, but their pictures still float around on the net. The names are pv*.gif or pv*.jpg

I also get pictures submitted from other paddlers on my favorite canoeing sites and use my own digital photography.

I change my desktop frequently. This got me in trouble only once, when (well into my cups) I put up a picture of a partially unclothed "person" and left it up. My owner was NOT amused. rolleyes.gif
This is my current background, a picture of the Sweetwater Gap in the Wind River mountains in Wyoming:

Posted by: Madadh 10-Dec-2004, 04:49 AM
I have a Linux box and run a program called gkrellm. It has a plug in that cycles background pictures every 10 minutes. This way when anyone here has a great picture I can just download it and add it to the rotation. biggrin.gif

So at this time I must thank all of the family for their pictures, they make my work background most enjoyable and lovely.

The only writer in the world for whom the above line is a good way to start off a story. Even if it never completely worked for him. Even the time or two he got a completed manuscript, he didn't manage to get a publishing deal. What a shame. Snoopy rules! How many beagles you know who can be:

Posted by: LilysApple 28-May-2005, 08:55 PM
Here's mine.

It's called The standing Stones of Stennes in Scotland.

The circle originally had a diameter of 31.7m (104 ft) and a total of 12 stones. Now only four unusually shaped stones remain; the tallest is about 5 m (16 ft) high, but not far away at the southern edge of the Bridge of Brodgar, is an even taller stone of 5.6m (18.5 ft) high and known as the Watch Stone. This may have been part of a line of standing stones linking the Stones of Stenness with the nearby Ring of Brodgar.

The site dates back to about 2970 BC, but the ditch and outer bank are now almost disappeared; the three stones of the cove were reconstructed on 1906. Actually, the cove has been 'restored' using some fallen stones to form what was then mistakenly thought to have been their original formation.

According to Dr.Robert Henry, an 18th century antiquary, the site was once known as the Temple of the Moon, and the Ring of Brodgar as the Temple of the Sun. There are stories of couples going first to the Temple of the Moon, where the woman fell down on her knees and prayed for strength, and then going to the Temple of the Sun where the man did the same. Each New Year's Day, the local people met at Stenness church and danced and feasted for several days.

It gives you updates on new discoveries as well as existing stone circles, dolmens, ancient standing stones, cairns, barrows, hillforts and archaeological finds and of there preservation. It's one of my favorite newsletters. I'll attempt to put a link below. Excellent HI-DEF photos great to save in a folder and use the "My Folder Screensaver".

Here is my current wallpaper now from my trip to Oregon. Just when I was taking the photo, my nephew jumped up there on the rock as he was taking photos too, but he got in MY sunset shot! cool.gif

Believe it or not, but there are artists I don't like. I've never seen what people see in Picasso, Jackson Pollack or Seurat. The only Edvard Munch I like is "The Scream". And the 20th Century artist I like is Norman Rockwell. I like how he saw the beauty of people doing mundane things.

Posted by: CelticRose 05-Jul-2005, 12:35 AM
Hey Mike! I don't like anything of Picasso's either! That makes me insane by many artists friends of mine. Oh well.

Latest one:

Footpath in The Garden by Monet...

I correct myself. There is one Seurat work I like, "Sunday in the Park". It is a source of local pride in the Chicago art community, being one of the works the Art Institute of Chicago is known for.

Can you imagine how good artists like Monet, Manet & Renoir would be if they had today's technology like computers and digital cameras?

The reason why I ask this is because they could take several pictures, enlarge them to get details, make copies of the enlargements and paint from them.

Posted by: CelticRose 04-Aug-2005, 05:30 PM
Well I have read some articles where the old Masters had the means of doing something similar to that anyway by using mirrors! I hope it isn't true cause I think they are and always will be the ultimate artists on their own talent.

As a pointer for those who may not be aware of this already, Windows displays all desktop images in bitmap (BMP) format. If you select another format, such as a JPG, Windows converts it to a bitmap before displaying the image. This is done every time the desktop is displayed- when you exit a program, switch between programs and even for redrawing the mouse pointer position. You'll see a slight performance increase if the file is a bitmap since Windows doesn't have to do the conversion. Using a program to convert file formats will result in no loss of picture quality but will cause a slight increase in system speed.
Of course the fastest way is to pick a solid color for a background (this also uses less memory) but that's too boring for most of us. smile.gif

Hi CR!

I'm glad you liked it. I took that up in the White Mountains, in Jackson, New Hampshire. I was standing on the balcony of the condo we rented for vacation, and looking at this gorgeous view -- just wanted to keep it with me always! It's so peaceful up there.

Posted by: CelticRose 03-Jan-2006, 01:35 AM
hey Dreamer! New Hampshire! I have always heard it is so beautiful there, but never had the pleasure of visiting. I have a cousin who lives in NH somewhere. Can't remember where now. I hear it is just gorgeous.

I can't remember if you live in NH or not. But would love to see more pics of NH if you care to share....please?! smile.gif

Hi CR,

I'd be glad to show you more of New Hampshire! It is a gorgeous place, at any time of year. You really should find out where your cousins live up there!

Since you liked the picture of the mists in the mountains, I'll start with more of those....I was standing there watching it all roll in, and just started snapping pictures.

Posted by: Dreamer1 04-Jan-2006, 02:36 PM
Same sequence....

Posted by: Dreamer1 04-Jan-2006, 02:37 PM
Followed it on across.......

Posted by: Dreamer1 04-Jan-2006, 02:42 PM
Here's a closer view (used zoom lense) across the mountain. It's normally hard to see other dwellings up there, because they're well placed to preserve the surrounding trees as much as possible. It's only at night, when the lights are sparkling, that you realize just how many homes are up in those mountains!

Posted by: Dreamer1 04-Jan-2006, 02:52 PM
We're very close to Mount Washington when we stay up in Jackson, so once we did drive over to see the Cog Railway. It takes tourists all the way up to the top of Mount Washington, where the views are amazing!! Unfortunately, it was much more expensive to ride than we'd thought - so we settled for watching the train and enjoying the great views from the museum......

Going up! Look wayyy up in the right corner, there she goes!.....

Posted by: Dreamer1 04-Jan-2006, 03:30 PM
This is a waterfall that runs down the mountain we stay on. If you look closely you can see some of the condos up in the far left corner, behind the trees. Waterfalls are very common sights up there, and make beautiful ice flows in Winter!

Posted by: Dreamer1 04-Jan-2006, 03:34 PM
There are still some covered bridges in use in New Hampshire, and this one covers the road that leads into Jackson. Wish more of these were kept up and still used!

Posted by: Dreamer1 04-Jan-2006, 03:50 PM
CR,

I haven't really done justice with these pictures! I wish I'd taken my camera on some of our drives further north, past Mount Washington towards Gorham and Maine (and Canada). As you're winding around the mountains, getting higher, you can look back and see clear down into the valleys below you for many miles -- absolutely incredible views!! Also, near Gorham you start to drive into large stands of just birch trees- it's really striking. Wish I could show you!

Here's a link to everything in the Mount Washington area. It will give you much better pictures than I have!

http://www.mtwashingtonvalley.org/

Enjoy it, and let me know where your cousins live!

Hey Dreamer! Wow! Really beautiful country there! Thanks for the photos of yours and others. Your pics were just as beautiful.

I cannot remember where my cousin lives in NH. I need to call her sister who lives in GA to find out. I know that my cuz loves it up in NH and has lived there for many years. I always want to go over the pond to visit, but there are so many places here in the states to see too, ya know? Plus, I want to go to Canada.

I was seriously thinking about going to GA this spring to visit family, but I may end up going to Colorado instead. I have never been there and been dying to for years. That would be a photographer's heaven too, me thinks! wink.gif

Been awhile since I've posted in this thread.

When my parents were in Seattle, they bought me a CD-ROM that had a packet of pictures of the area. So now I pictures of the Pike Place Market, the Seattle skyline, Mount Rainier and one of Mount Saint Helens showing activity a few years ago, among others. I'll post my favorites on Sunday when I'm at my folks'.

I can't upload any pics here as they're too big in file size. I'll try in the Downloads section...

I change mine ever so often, when I'm bord with the one I have.
Right now I'm running Aston window shell with this theme called CeltDesk

That's pretty nifty- is this a desktop add-on package or freeware?

I have mine rotating through a file of currently 355 pictures.

Recently, I added some I took with my parents' digital camera.

The picture is attached.

I use photos I took at Garvin Gardens in Hot Springs Arkansas one spring.http://www.garvangardens.org/

This one is of an arched stone bridge, it reminds me of Hobbiton, Middle Earth!

OK, attaching the file didn't work, so I uploaded the photo into my gallery.

You can see the Stone Bridge in my Gallery.

I forgot to add a description of the picture.

Almost everyone would recognize Superman and Batman in the foreground. In the background, from left to right, there's The Joker, Batzarro, Mr. Mxyzptlk with Batmite's shadow behind him, Bizarro, and Darkseid.

At home I have...nothing ! Only the blue screen, 'cause my pc must must have the best performance possible (for music software).
