US Government now dictating what happens in Canada and looks like they also want you the consumer to have to keep paying high prices for perscription drugs here in the US.
From my trips to the Pharmacy, I have observed some pretty heinous things. I go get my pills, Anyway, I copay$8 for my prescription. The lady in front of me paid $32 and bought 32 different prescription drugs! I asked the cashier after the lady had left how much the drugs probably cost. --> About $1000!!! And YOU AND I paid for it! The guy in front of me another month paid 50 cents! I can't even get tylenol for that. This prescription drug thing is outrageous, not because those people (whether or not they NEED the drugs is another argument) have to pay these prices, but the fact that I am picking up the tab.

I know around here it's totally rediculous for instance my father-in-law when he was a live had a problem where he ended up going to a clinic here and from there the doctor had him transfered to the hospital and to drive no more then a mile in the ambulance it ran over $300 bucks for less then a mile trip. How rediculous is that? If we had known it was going to cost so much we'd have transported him ourselves.
What I can't figure out is why the Federal government feels that they have to tell me whether or not I can purchase these meds. If I research the company selling them and the company manufacturing them, and I am satisfied with the purity and quality, and I have a prescription from my physician, who is the FDA to tell me that I can't buy them?
And I am sorry, but if someone can't be bothered to do a little background research into their meds, then they get what they deserve. It's only your life after all. Why does the federal government try to get their little fingers into every pie that exists?
Oh my God! How did I get up on this soapbox? Why is my face red? I think that I'll get off the soapbox now, and go read some Libertarian Party pamphlets.

I know and it sickens me how little most Americans care about what is happening out here. For instance we have nearly 1,800 members as of this posting and maybe 10-15 of them have requested the password to partcipate in this forum. And amazingly I think we all agree to some degree (Not 100% that's for sure) but I think I can feel safe in saying to even a high degree we all agree that there is way to much government involvement in our lives. 100% more then the constitution dictates. Personally we should not have any contact with federal government unless it is through the state except in very few cases such as postal service and rare court cases that would be involved as laid forth in the constitution regarding what cases fed courts should hear.
In fact I was going to start this here but I will start a new discussion on the california election and fed courts so look for a new thread we'll keep this for perscription debates. So easy for me to get all riled up when I hear a certain issue. I think this new topic will be constitution conflicts so look for it in a few minutes.
I may repost what I have above as part of the start topic. So please reread as I will expand on this message with new items. I may even do a poll of it.
Obviously, as a 'foreigner' here, I cannot comment on this topic - as I am unsure of the 'rules'. I thought you might be interested in what happens under the NHS rules...
Prescriptions are written by the doctor (obviously!!) and you are charged 6 pounds 10p PER ITEM! You are exempt from these charges for a number of reasons, eg you are receiving state benefits (unemployment, sickness benefit etc), you have a specified on-going or chronic illness (eg diabetes - but NOT asthma), you are pregnant or you are over retirement age (currently 60 for women, 65 years for men) or you are under 16. I think there may be a couple of other 'exemptions' but I can't remember them, precisely!
What this means is that for an asthmatic, who does not fall into this category, and who may be required to use 3 different inhalers - each script will cost 18 pounds 30 p! If that asthmatic also has, say, high blood pressure - for which the minimum prescribed drug number is usually 2 - another 12 pounds 20... maybe got arthritis - with anything up to 4 items per script.... Well, you can see how our 'free' prescription service, aint quite so 'free'!
If you have private medicine then the prescription charges can vary according to the specialist you are visiting.
