OK folks, fess up; who's got what and where is it? Public view or private showings only?

Posted by: celtica 10-Jul-2004, 07:57 AM
Think I would like to have a tatoo, something ethnic or celtic...but I'm a bit afraid of growing tired of it in a few years. The definitive aspect of the thing makes me hesitate. And what happen when your muscles beguin to ....hum, how do you say that....trickle ? unsure.gif I've never seen an old lady with tatoos... tongue.gif

Posted by: Keltic 10-Jul-2004, 09:00 AM
I have a number of tattoos including a ram's head, a celtic wrist band, a viking, the lion rampant and the Canadian maple leaf. There is much room left on this canvas and eventually, the collage will be continued.

no tattoos here.....my body is a Temple! angel_not.gif

Posted by: oldraven 10-Jul-2004, 12:01 PM
My body is a temple too, Dundee. Now let's decorate! sly.gif

I chose 'thinking about it', but I've actually decided on it. I'm getting the Reeves COA with the Dragons head crest above, a banner with 'Animum Rege' (our moto 'ruly thy mind') above that, and a banner with 'Reeves' below everything. The plan was for my brothers, cousing Jason, and I to get it done while we're down for the wedding. But the budget doesn't allow for it this time. I'll have to wait until we move home, I guess.

I'm going to get a tattoo of the Clan Maxwell crest and motto some day on my upper arm.

Posted by: greenldydragon 10-Jul-2004, 12:20 PM
Nope, nope, nope. Though, that probably isn't surprising..

Posted by: VetteGal 10-Jul-2004, 03:00 PM
I have a unicorn head over a rainbow on my back over the left shoulder. I would like to get pegasis on the other shoulder with the rainbow connecting them across my back. But, the money is not there right now. sad.gif

I love tattoos. They are a beautiful art piece that I can carry around with me that has a meaning to me. I only have four. A celtic knot star on my foot, the taurus sign on my leg, a wolf on my back, and a four leaf clover on my wrist. Hopefully I will be getting another one soon I just have to decide what and where.

Posted by: MDF3530 10-Jul-2004, 05:16 PM
Here's the Clan Maxwell crest:

Yea, i know I'm leaving myself wide open, at least we will have a bit of crack!!!

Year before last, my owner went to California for a month to visit. The day I picked her up at the airport, I applied a "fake" tatoo of a dagger and skull to my right forearm. It was VERY realistic. biggrin.gif
I let her notice it. She was quiet for rather a long time before she commented on it. She asked: "how long have you had THAT?".
My response: " I got drunk one night......"
I waited for 3-4 hours before I 'fessed up. laugh.gif

maisky that was mean but good!

how bad does it hurt when you have a tatoo put on?

how bad does it hurt when you have a tatoo put on?

depends on where you have it. The ones on my shoulder baldes didnt hurt too much but the one on my spine killed me.
the ones on my arms were no big deal and niether were the ones on my calfs..well. the one on my right calf hurt when they passed the shin bone.
the ones on my ankles didnt hurt much either

I guess,in a nut shell, the more muscle you have in an area the less it will hurt(typically)

Posted by: BluegrassLady 11-Jul-2004, 03:40 AM
I am not partial to tatoos. However, my husband has one, my son has one, and my daughter (being the free spirit she is) has 3. So... you can see how much my opinion counts around here! huh.gif

Oh, well...I love them anyway tongue.gif

Also depends on the artist, some are better than others. Ask around first. Or you could just dip a porcupine in ink and have a spirited game of dodge ball. rolleyes.gif

A rather novel way of getting a tribal tattoo, I'd say. Did anyone ask porky if he wanted to play? biggrin.gif

Very true. One of the first thing I tell friends that want one is to do your homework. ask around to customers ..find out if the studio is liscenced with the state(where applicable). Find out about the artist you want to use. Go in and watch.
and ask ask ask. if an artist isnt willing to answer all questions then dont go.
My Opinion

Posted by: Annabelle 12-Jul-2004, 06:55 AM
So the artists and location makes a difference on how much it hurts. Worst pain being a 10, least is 1.
Ankle?
hip?
shoulders?
Arm?

please give me an idea
Thanks,

I have a tat in the middle of my lower back, Its a mix of tribals and a trieskles... The pic below is of the one on my back. It didn't hurt too bad, except when they were close to the spine. The rule I've heard is fleshy hurts lessy, bone will make you groan. I think that's why the butt tats are so popular!

(jumping up looking over shoulders) I can't see!

Posted by: Danann 12-Jul-2004, 08:28 AM
Well... the rest would have to be in a private viewing when I am skinny dipping in the inflatable pool... bathing suits show them off nicely - If I am wearing the low top and bottoms...

I do not have any tats nor do I plan to get any..... but this has got to be one of the all time best ones!!! See below.

Shadows... that was really... :shudders: Wow. Left me momentarily speechless. That doesn't happen much!
I've considered a tatoo with knotwork for a long long time, but if I ever go get any, there'll have to be one of Marvin the Martian.

Geez, I'm WAY too much of a coward/wimp for a tattoo.

My two daughters (19 and 23) have those colorful gecko thingies on their lower back. My son has gotten a few while in the Marines.

I *have* briefly thought about the clan crest thingie on my arm, but I don't know if I'd have the courage to follow through with it.

Maybe after several wee drams.

Brother Maisky, would you hold my hand through the process?

Posted by: Annabelle 12-Jul-2004, 12:56 PM
Brother Maisky will stand there and tell you colorful jokes and I'll keep filling up your glass til you pass out. Would that work Shamalama Ding Dong?

Four years in the navy and no tats! Once I was drunk enough to get one I was too drunk to find a parlor. I gave my Son a hard time for his but now that he is gone I plan to get one in his memory. Something along the lines of a maltese cross with his name and dates I think. Check out strikethebox.com for some examples. fireman2.gif

Need some help- Does anyone have really cool pictures of a wolf? I have a small one but it's much too small for me and I would like to cover it with a larger one. I've been looking and was just wondering if anyone has some cool ideas or sites.
Thanks biggrin.gif

I'm not into tatoos myself, but I've seen some on women that I think are kind of sexy. I like the small ones on the back of the shoulder and around the ankles. If you've seen recent pictures of Alyssa Milano you'll know what I mean. Although, she could make about anything sexy! She also has one on her calf that's very nice.

Here's a zipped pic of back tatoos (55 K, too big to attach image)

You ain't kiddin', honey. I'm working on kid number two, and just the thought of what a tattoo would look like on my navel right now made me laugh until there were tears in my eyes. Maybe.... if a woman got a tattoo that would be sort of designed to stretch, you know, like Plasticman? So it would remain a conversation piece. I was always partial to Marvin the Martian for a tattoo, but now I wish I'd have gotten Plasticman on my belly. How great would that be? w00t1.gif

I want a tattoo but simply can't decide which to get first. I have two tattoos.

I have one on my left ankle of a dragon holding a crystal ball and one in the middle lower back of an elvish marking symbol.

I plan on adding one to my right ankle and left wrist on celtic bands. One for health and the other for love.

Both my tattoos didn't hurt much. When I got my ankle one the only part that hurt is when they hit the ankle bone. The one on my back was over my spine and it made my legs bouce up and down. It felt kinda of weird for a while.

Posted by: Annabelle 28-Jul-2004, 10:55 AM
Liriel so If i get one on my hip will it hurt and can you tell me jokes and slip me MM while they do it?
I don't know if I can do this!!!!! We will have to talk about this at Bethlehem! I want to know more

Well, it's settled. I'm getting one on the 11th. smile.gif In New Glasgow. Some guy named Sailor Pat, or something like that. Ange got a rose on her ankle from this same guy, and from what I've heard, from a few sources, he's world class. Clean, and proffesional.

My cousin Jason is setting it up, and He, my brother Troy, and I are getting it done all at once. Well, one after the other, but all together.

"Thinking about it" and "My Parent/Spouse/Significant Other Would Kill Me" should not be mutually exclusive.... smile.gif

Posted by: Sea Dog 30-Jul-2004, 12:25 AM
My middle son just showed us a new "banner" design across the top of his stomach. So far just the outlining has been done. He is saying not only is it still hurting, but hurts a lot more than the outline on his arm. (Neither has begun to be filled in yet. OH JOYS) I mentioned it will hurt even more when they start filling it in. I also mentioned to his Mother that it will really look interesting when he gets a beer belly. After she stopped laughing, he assured us he would never get a beer belly - To Be Continued.

I may or may not have mentioned I am working at a major Amusement Park this Summer, I can tell you from a lot of recent experience and observations poorly selected and/or done tattoos on overweight folks don't look good, they get worse when they get bigger or older. Tats, navel rings and other body art on ladies that have figures like mine shouldn't get displayed in public. The men with jibs cut like mine aren't great either, but most appear to have been that size when decorated and the tats aren't too bad, but some of the ladies are well never mind.

Let's just say there are a few people that really shouldn't be wearing crop tops, and low cut shorts. sad.gif

Posted by: urian 31-Jul-2004, 05:03 PM
Symbol for dragon
I have 4 dragon tats total plus that.
Lots of reason for the dragons
one is that its one of my totems
and the dragon represents the best and worst of the human soul but I choose to concentrate on the best..longjevity, patience, kindness, intelligence, nobility

Posted by: oldraven 14-Aug-2004, 05:00 PM
The Thunderbird comes from pacific coast American Native (don't know the tribe) folklore. Lived in the caves on the coast and would do battle with the Killer Whale out on the ocean, causing ocean storms.

Brought to you by your local thunderbird fanatic. laugh.gif Let's see if I can find some sort of link, and how bad my memory is.

Thank you very much for the legend oldraven ! smile.gif I didn't know it.

Your tatoo is very beautiful indeed ! laugh.gif
Isn't it too big for a first one...should have hurt unsure.gif

Posted by: oldraven 15-Aug-2004, 01:59 PM
Yeah, it's way too big for a first. I almost passed out twice. ALMOST! cool.gif We had planned for it to be about three inches high, but Jerry, the tat man, said we would loose too much detail at that size. So they're friggin huge. laugh.gif

It took 2 hours, and I went first. My two brothers, Jimmie and Troy, my cousin Jason, and I all got them done, identically. By the time Troy got his done, Sailor Jerry had cut the time down to an hour and a quarter.

Yes, it hurts.

The outline is the worst, and when he gets to the long straight ones, you'll feel the burn. About half way through the outline I asked him to hold off for a minute, and I just about lost it. He handed me a glass of water and told me to lean forward. After about five minutes of intense cold sweats, I was back under the needle. Got up and walked around the room before the shading started for a minute or two, then planted my arse until it was done. It's just starting to peel now.

After about twenty minutes, it starts to go numb though, so it's really not that bad. Once you convince yourself that it's just a bit of burning, and it's not going to kill you, it'll be easy as pie. Before it was finished, I was thinking of what to get on the other arm. laugh.gif

I'm really enjoying it now. I call it my new paintjob. biggrin.gif Somehow I see this as a new family tradition.

Here we are, in order. Jason, Me, Troy, and Jimmie. Don't we look baddass now? laugh.gif

Posted by: Annabelle 15-Aug-2004, 06:20 PM
OldRaven you are crazy! Your description of the procedure is funny! I couldn't stop laughing. The tatoo's look great!
