We are planning on releasing a chat room that goes along with Highlander Radio. It is not yet up on the site yet, but we are testing out all of the features. It will display the current song and have an interface for requesting songs, etc. Hopefully it will bring Highlander Radio listeners together.

The way Highlander Radio is going, we might even have some bands  come into the chat room. We are averaging a new media kit from various groups every week!!

Use it long enough and it's habit. I actually had it easy with the Aye's, my wifes Japanese so was always saying Hai for yes, well take the H off of it and you have Aye just spell ai instead but same sound. So was easy to transition over to just plain AYE.  :D

Probably best for AKLassie to suggest a time as she's 4 hours behind us all which would put 6PM chat her time at 10 PM our time and inbetween your KYLassie. Only times I know so far so...but might be best untill 6PM Alskan time works for the rest.  :ss  (xmas)

Posted by: scottish2 15-Dec-2001, 05:09 PM
Well I stopped by around 6 to see if anyone per chance was early but no one was in the chatroom. So anywho hope to see some of ya tomorrow eve.

Posted by: kylassie 22-Dec-2001, 10:49 AM
I will be there too! I will begin with the Highlander Radio Forum as well. Shall I bring along a net and some rope so that we can rescue anyone who is bounced wildly on and off the chat room forum?  :D

It occurs to me that perhaps one should wear a helmet while participating in the chat - the situation could get dangerous with all of that wild bouncing around!   ;)

I should be there providing lighting doesn't strike. Lost a system a few years back to lighting was weird one bolt and one clap of thinder and nothing else but that was all it took to blow my system within a few months it totally died blew my modem immediately.  :(  But got back up shortly after with a new system and have replaced that as well just to go faster and faster  :p

Can you convert wav files for your use? That is the format I have as downloaded allot when I was on another ISP back some time ago. And I unfortunately don't have a program to convert them and even if I do don't know how.

As for chatroom. I saw all but didn't see the ignore which is a good feature in case we get someone who just wants to be trouble users can adjust the settings which is a great feature I know one most here agreed should be included. But looking good so far.  (d)  (d)  (d)

:)

Great chat last night! I am already looking forward to next Sunday! (d)

For those that could not make it, we chatted from about 8-9:30 and talked about everything from Highland dancing to star trek!

Thanks for everyones suggestion on the chat room. I am going to try and implement some of those suggestions. The only item that I do not think is possible at this time is the ability to change the font. I do have the ability to set the font size and type in the program itself, so if there is a particular font and size that might go well with the room, please let me know. Depending on the popularity of the chat room, we will definitely consider obtaining a more robust chat server in the future.

Heres the work we have left on the chat room:

1) Install full version (current version installed was a beta version ? my error!- this should resolve the emoticon problem we discovered)
2) Install full compliment of sound files.
3) Install full set of action phrases.
4) Make the chat box resizable.
5) Make emoticons help file resizable.

I will be popping into the chat room after 8:00 tonight for a New Years even greeting.

IN preparation for next Sundays chat we will be sending out an invitation to everyone in the forum and mail list (about 200 people).

We need to set up a time for the chatroom so that perhaps we can meet under less formal circumstances as this message board. While the message board is good, due its nature, it is harder to meet and greet others. Remember, we are posting from various points on the globe, so that when a time is set, then it should be stated which time zone, so that the rest of us can adjust ourselves to the correct times.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Great Let me know when it's up and running Paul and I'll drop the chat room I have and link to yours. Mines OK but being a free chat room not the nest plus will be great to link up with your site for even more exposure. Might I make a suggestion that the user have the ability to control sounds. I know some chatrooms have sounds and you want to make sure the user can choose the sounds or background music. That is providing you're having any sound in it at all.

And let me know when we get a date set I'll try and post a message on my own message board to try and get additional chatters from my own board to the room to add to the chat.  :D

I can't wait until I am down with the new website and chat room so I can actually start enjoying all of this stuff! :)

Aye, i'll all bee worth i'd the end......

Can't slip anything past you Dave! lol - Yes, still working on the commands and help. Should be done in short order since I have most of this information printed out.

Yeah, it can accept sounds. It needs them in a certain format called au in 8 bit....I will look up the documentation. If you have a few that you want included, just email them to me when you get a chance.

Not sure if you noticed, but you can engage in private chat, as well as ignore users, colors, etc.

Posted by: scottish2 27-Dec-2001, 06:10 PM
While it would have been nice to have more in the chat if anything was sort of good just AK and myself as her Daughter was having some troubles getting signed up so it gave us time to work out the bugs and get her all signed up so make sure to welcome Akferret.  :)

(cry) Sorry I missed everyone on chat this evening.  Hubby had lot of work to do on line so couldn't make it.  Don't know if I'll make it tomorrow.  Don't get off from work till 4:30.  If not Happy New Year to everyone.  (m)

Posted by: kylassie 18-Nov-2001, 09:51 PM
:)  So now all we need to do is pick a day and a time. I am not committed to any particular day or time. We can chat morning, midday or evening, just so long as we pick a time and a date that is suitable to the other members of this board. How about Thursday evenings from 6 - 7:30 pm Central time? That would be 7 - 8:30 to folks in Eastern time zone. This is just a proposal, and we can set it up differently if this will not work for y'all. I know that we should TRY to arrange it around everyone's work schedules, etc.

Posted by: kylassie 19-Nov-2001, 10:42 AM
Yes, that is the link I was referring to, the one here on the Scottish Thistle. I am okay with weekend times too. Just tell me when and I will be there with bells on! Last night I was chatting with three friends at once, which can be very confusing!!!!! I like chatrooms for the reason that it is more simple to keep up with the conversation. I will hope that we can keep the correspondence *G* rated or perhaps *PG* rated, because my children are often here in the evening reading the screen over my shoulder. :)

Posted by: kylassie 22-Nov-2001, 07:27 AM
Did any else besides me watch The Mark Twain Award given to Whoopi Goldberg on PBS last night? Robin Williams appeared on stage wearing a Black Jacket and Tie, a Kilt, and a Gas Mask! His routine was hysterical - I laughed so hard my sides hurt! :D  Anyways, he was doing a Scottish accent, and what started as "Aye" quickly deteriorated to "Argh!" and Billy Crystal accused him of becoming a Pirate! :D  If you did not see this program, then you really missed a great show!!!!!!:D

Posted by: scottish2 20-Nov-2001, 06:12 PM
Also just a note as I noticed a concern about the language. With my chatroom you can ignore users. just highlight the user and check the ignore box on the screen and no more foul language. Just in case we get a bad guy/gal in there. Unfortunately I have no banning control with this chatroom but ignore will do what is needed. Once enough people stop talking to them they'll leave on their own. Just so you know there are options just in case. But I think for the most part will just be folks from here so should be a great FUN chat!!!  :D

It's wonderful how everything is coming together.  Chat room before Chirstmas would make a nice Christmas present.(xmas)
Just look how our membership is growing.  We just might make the 100 mark by Jan 2002 (y)  (y)

Posted by: aklassie 09-Dec-2001, 01:14 AM
Now that the chat room is in the test mode, we need to set up a time and day we can all be on line at the same time and do some chatting.  I for one am looking forward to meeting everyone :)

Posted by: scottish2 14-Dec-2001, 03:15 PM
Sunday should be fine for me at 7PM Saturday we got invited out to dinner by some friends and we meet at 7 so...but Sunday should be fine for me around 7.

(t) Congrats Guys! Just tell me what time the chat begins and I will try to be there. Late afternoons and evenings work best for me (CST). (xmas)

Hi Gang

I just wanted to see if we're still all on for 8PM EST Sunday evening? Also which chatroom so we all end up in the same room.  :D

Posted by: aklassie 27-Dec-2001, 03:30 PM
:(
Would love to, but we alway go over to a friends house.  They have a BIG get together.  We shoot off fireworks, the whole 9 yards.  I hope everyone can make it for Sunday though.  :p

Posted by: Macfive 28-Dec-2001, 10:29 PM
What time and what day were you going to have the chat this weekend?

The reason I ask is I have added a number of items to the Highlander Radio Chat. Colors, private chat, the ability to connect to a number of servers and all of the emoticons in the forum work in the chat room (same short cuts too). I should be adding some sound options that will play when you type in a shortcut.

Posted by: kylassie 29-Dec-2001, 11:48 AM
Sounds good to me Scottish2! We have no plans for Monday.

Posted by: scottish2 29-Dec-2001, 06:48 PM
Hi Paul gave it a quick whirl looks good. Only problems I noted and maybe you just haven't got to them yet are the command and help options. If you just haven't got to them not to worry as I know you've been at it allot today with migraine and all.

On separate issue can you add any amount of sounds? If so what format? WAV? if so I have a bunch so let me know if you're looking for any specific wavs.  :)

Posted by: Macfive 29-Dec-2001, 11:34 PM
I have a program that will convert the wavs to au, so no problem, just send what you have!

There is an ignore feature, but it is a little less apparent. Will have to add some note on this.

To ignore someone, doubleclick there name in the userlist box and a small chat window will open up. The ignore button is on that window!

I just finished the commands section and help section. I also added a note to the chat room when you first logon that states to join us for a chat on Sunday nites at 8pm est.

Going to add it to the main page right now!

Thanks for the feedback!

Posted by: scottish2 30-Dec-2001, 09:50 PM
Well that's 8:30PM EST so you'll only miss the first half hour why not jump in when you get home?  :)

You did miss a good chat though was allot of fun using Paul's new interface.  ;)

I am happy to report that work on the chat room has been fully completed. All icons, actions, sounds, help files and configurations are completed!!!

After working to many hours with the java code to configure this little beast I am ready for :zz

AKLassie,

This is an excellent idea! In fact, one of the things we were hoping for was to build an on-line community and this is the exact support we need in order for that to happen!

Our website is being redesigned and a chat room is definitely in the works. We are exploring a number of different chatrooms. THe new broadcast software we have has a built in chat room that works with IRC chats. It announces the song playing and you can make requests through the chat room? Is that something you are interested in?

Posted by: scottish2 04-Dec-2001, 07:28 AM
Yes ID integration would be great so we can all recognize one another.  :p

Posted by: Macfive 09-Dec-2001, 06:44 PM
Glad that you like the chat room!

It's great hearing feedback like this and makes all of this work worth the effort! (Especially for people as nice as you all!)

:D

Here's a virtual toast to you! (t)

Well, as long as the chat room is still functioning, I would be up for a chat sometime next weekend. What is the best time for everyone?

Posted by: scottish2 16-Dec-2001, 10:38 AM
Good Idea am sure Paul will integrate it.

As for the Santa's Pauls been updating the forum and such and somehow they disappeared. If you want though all I do is right click on one of my old posts that had Santa and got the URL for it then inserted it as an image using the image button then entering in the URL and works fine. Here's the URL if you want it.

Don't know I am thinking maybe one of the dress up Sumo Wrestler outfits for skinny folks who want to pretend to be sumo wrestlers. That way you have tons of padding while bouncing.  :D  :p

Same time as before?  4:00p.m Alaska time, 7:00 CST, 8:00 EST?

Posted by: scottish2 29-Dec-2001, 06:38 PM
OK the bug testors heading on over to give it a whirl will send you any reported bugs. If they exist will find them and exterminate  :p  :D  :D  :D

I'd love to join in a chat room.  Problem, Alaskan time is 3 hours earlier the Cen.  6:00 to 7:30 would be 3:00 to 5:30 my time.  I don't get home from work till 6.  Possible to set it up for weekends???? ??? ??? ???

Just thought I would give you an update on how the chat room is progressing.

We have selected the software needed to run the chat room and we are currently testing and configuring! The chat room uses java and a little server side applet to function. What does this mean you say? Well, for one, it is our own chat room, no advertisements nor any service providers!

The software has emoticons, so you can be sure that we will mirror the emoticons we use here. There are sound features and action features. All and all a really nice package. We are currently wrapping the Highlander colors and logos around the software - intregating it into the site. The chat room will be a pop-up webpage that can be minimized so you can browse, listen, email, etc. while you are still in the room. We are also exploring the possibility of having your forum user name as your nick.

My earliest guess for implementing the chat room is before Christmas. (xmas)

Any time works for me and Paul can you try and put the drink into your drink tray on the front of your system and sending it for me to download to my drink tray.  :p  (xmas)

Just a thought, I haven't checked to see if it's already been suggested, but wouldn't it be a good idea to put a clock on the site so we can tell what your time is.  That way folk from all over the world will know what time it is in your part. :D  :D

P.S. Where are the clickable Santas :D  :D

:(  :(  Missed all, except Scottish2, in chat room Sun.  Shall we try it again this coming Sunday???  :D  :D  :D  :D

Posted by: scottish2 29-Dec-2001, 08:04 AM
Yeah 8PM EST on Sunday works for me. :)

I was also thinking for those that can make it maybe also a Monday night session also at 8 PM EST if anyone can make it just for New Years Eve.  (m)

Posted by: Macfive 29-Dec-2001, 06:33 PM
Just wanted to let everyone know that the chat room is progressing nicely! We just added all 24 emoticons to the chat room. Working on help menus, sounds and actions. If you get chance to check it out, would appreciate some feedback and a litte bug testing!

Thanks!

Posted by: scottish2 19-Nov-2001, 08:30 AM
Yeah same here weekend works best for me just do to things I do during the week.

Also which chatroom were you refering to? Was it the one on my site or did Paul add one that I missed? Just want to make sure everyone can find it once we do set a time.

In case mine here is a link if people want to use it anyways, if on Highlander Radios Where can we find teh link as I can't seem to see it.  ???

I didn't. Watched Star Trek Enterprise (Yes I'm a Trekie  ) then messed on line some then hit the rack was dead beat oh plus fiddle with picture of Uncle Joe for you.

(xmas) Y'all can rest assured that I am doing my part to spread the word about this site! I see that people whom I know through other message boards are listed as members now. When will our first chat party begin?

Posted by: kylassie 14-Dec-2001, 01:55 PM
:D I am ssoooooooo ready to try the chat room out! Shall we test it out this weekend? Alaska says 2:00 in the afternoon (6:00 EST) is okay, while we were thinking 10:00 EST (6:00 Alaska Time) - let's compromise between the two?

How about 4:00 pm Alaska Time, which is 7:00pm Kentucky Time, and 8:00 pm Eastern Time. (I think! - All of this math is giving me a headache!)  If you live in in some other part of the world, reading this, you will just have to figure out what time it is for yourself I am afraid.

I plan to check the chat room out at 7:00 pm Saturday and Sunday and see if anyone else is there to chat with?

Posted by: aklassie 22-Dec-2001, 01:27 AM
I'd say start out in the Highlander.  Keep fingures and toes crossed that I have no problems.  :p

Posted by: scottish2 25-Dec-2001, 06:45 PM
As far as I know at this point and time I'll be there hope we have a good group to help bring in the new year> We can also try for a Monday eve maybe for new years eve if anyone is up for it let us all know I'll be home so... :p

Posted by: scottish2 29-Dec-2001, 12:31 PM
OK well I'll stop by then Monday at 8 if at least 1 can make it. And sunday as well.  :)

Posted by: scottish2 30-Dec-2001, 06:44 AM
OK have a few will have to see what I have as it's been awhile since I went throguh them all. :D

Also sent a few other ideas via PM so you can find them there.  :)
