Hear The Gospel Proclaimed By Our Lutheran Friends, The Lutheran Hour

"Christ is risen! He is risen, indeed!"

Easter is next week and I thought I might point to a place you can hear the Gospel proclaimed online by some of our Lutheran brothers and sisters.

While most Irish and Scottish Celts are Christians through the Catholic or Presbyterian Churches, my father was brought up by his step-mother in the Lutheran Church. There are probably more than one of our Christian members here who either have attended a Lutheran Church at one time or are current members.

One of the Lutheran Churches (Missouri Synod) outreaches for the past 75years has been their Radio Ministry "The Lutheran Hour". I was reminded last Sunday that the show still exists, so I thought I'd share a couple links to their website:

I remember the Lutheran hour on AM radio a long time ago. My secretary attended a Lutheran church and I attended her final services there. I found the service in many ways similar to Catholicism. (I do not mean to stir any ill feelings, just an observation)

My family was split between Presbyterian on the Scot side and Catholic on the Irish side. I have joked about that but I recall no bickering over it in my youth. I believe Mom won that one when I was but a wee thing. I have attended both and the difference is night and day between them.

We visited an old church, (from the 1700's) in Virginia where the Scot side of the family first settled. The pews had doors and locks on them so the minister, who preached from a platform high above the congregation, could keep them contained until his message was complete.

Most of the faiths will soon be celebrating the most important event of the year. It has been some time since I was awake at sunrise on Easter morning. I have not missed an Easter Sunday service for many years though. God willing, I will attend this one!

What a wonderful Holy Week post! I happen to be a Lutheran Christian in the Missouri Synod, and I do listen to the Lutheran Hour radio program.

My father, from Halifax then Portchester, was not raised in the Christian faith, because my grandparents threw the Anglican Vicar out of their house when he came to visit in the wake of my granduncle (4 years old) having drown in the canal. But he has always been a god-fearing man. My mother was from a lapse Baptist background and became a Lutheran in High School. After his retirement - so many years - my father is now, by the grace of God, a professed Christian.

So many of us probably have interesting tales and roots. May all have a blessed Easter and especially those still seeking for meaning and salvation. I beleive you will find your rest in God which you seek through this Christ.

Being an Irish Catholic, all things not Catholic were viewed as sinful when I was growing up in the 50's and 60's. For some reason though, my family used to watch the TV program "This is the life" about the Fisher family. It came on while we were getting ready to head out for mass. Good show. Good message. Not sinful!

I am glad things have changed with regard to that narrow view and thanks to MacE. Patch and Englishmix for prompting the memories.
