As many of you know of my Scottish background and my family Heritage with the Grant Clan, well this brings out what we have sent to Gerard Butler to start our Burns Journey. To really kick off our Burns Rt Poetry Competition, in style

For over 100 years this wonderful Burns book as been passed down through the generations and it passed to me by my Grandfather who told me before he died, to pass it along to a special person who is kind of heart and kind of soul, he made me swear to do it as his last dying wish. He said it has to go to a person who is full of dreams and a soul that touches others at it travels through life, well to me that is Gerard, he has touches so many and continues to touch so many.

My Great Great Grandfather had it with him all during the first World War and he said it kept him sane all through the death and madness of the war, it has seen many a battlefield all through Europe and he prized it above even his cigarettes. He read from it as one of his fellow soliders lay dying on the battle field and held his hand to ease his suffering, so the book as been many places and has been help near to many people's heart in my family and it was sent to Gerard from all of us at Team Burns.

It just seemed the right thing to do and to get us rolling to begin this wonderful Burns Journey together.

The book is 177 years old and I have read it many times as a child and held great wonder in my eyes.

It is published in 1830 Volume 11 - Poetical Works Of Robert Burns

We had a special person get it to Gerard since the book is very Rare and old and we want to make sure he gets it.

So come and join in all the fun and good cheer and enter our RT Burns 1ST Poetry Competition, explore the magic of Burns and Scotland and Gerard Butler's future Burns Film Role.

Hi Alexandria,

I agree the site is wonderful and the poems are just amazing, so much
heart and soul in them, they have done Scotland proud, whilst championing
a film of Robert Burns to be made soon, starring the charismatic and talented actor Gerard Butler, a man who shares so many of Robert Burns qualities and
with such a deep passion and a great love for Scotland.

I hope everyone will get behind him in Scotland for this one. thumbs_up.gif

There Once Was A Dream, A Dream That Was Burns

Once there was a dream that was Burns and you could only say it in a whisper
To hope and pray that one day a dream could come true and could be realized
The distant Ancient Highlands would say his name in a whisper and send it along on the north wind, Burns, Burns, Burns

Can you hear the name from within the distant fog and spread about the moors
It is a name that history has written within her book with tears of forbidden love that is for sure

Love and hate we are told indeed go hand in hand, throughout the ages of time they both indeed span
Burns is indeed a legend, a myth and is truly more than a mortal man
His words of love, passion have tested time itself, more than he could have ever planned

He takes his rightful place as a romantic and can be said he was a realist, far beyond his given time
His words of passion make you dig down within your heart and soul, you say with a gentle whisper, I wish him to be mine

Many a fair maiden have fallen under his spell, how many through the years, it is hard to tell
The promise of true love and devotion pulls at your very soul and is part of the very magic of the spell
Without his words and touch your body feels like a distant empty shell

So as you drift through the years remember as it nears your time to pass, there once was a dream, a dream that was Burns and it has been realized

We are also holding a Robert Burns Poetry Contest with over 75 enteries to date from all around the world, here are the details:

Burns Poetry Competition - World Wide Enteries - Celebrity Prizes

Hello, here are a few updates on our Burns Poetry Contest that now has over 70 poems and we are so proud to have as a additional prize offering: Signed Dougie Maclean Cd's and as well David Sibbald from www.robertburns.plus.com would be pleased to announce the winner on his own web site and feature the winning entries if the authors give him permission to do so. He has always had an interest in Robert Burns, presumably because he is a descendant, on his mother's side, of John Murdoch who was Burns Tutor at an early age. However, the interest was a latent one until he joined The Glasgow Haggis Club. This club was founded in 1873 and affiliated to the Burns federation in 1886, being number 33 on the roll of Burns Clubs

He has been president of The Glasgow Haggis Club and The Glasgow and District Burns Association, the latter in 1996 which was the bi-centennial of Burns death.

I insist that you shall write whatever comes first, - what you see, what you read, what you hear, what you admire, what you dislike; trifles, bagatelles, nonsense, or, to fill up a corner, e'en put down a laugh at full length" - Robert Burns.
