I'm a life long hockey fan. Happy to have a local team! When I lived in Colorado I was a huge Avs fan, and before that a Bruins Fan. My new dog is named after the Columbus rookie goaltender. He even has his own doggie jersey.

Any Hockey Fans out there? Who is your team? and your pick for the Stanley Cup Match up?

My team is failing miserably, (I'm holding out unrealistic hope of course!) but we made it and I'm extatic with that! So now I have to live vicariously through others!

Go Jackets! tongue.gif

Blackhawks/Chicago Wolves (AHL) fan here!

Maple Leafs fan (we had a lousy year sad.gif ). Vancouver will make the Stanley Cup Finals. For the East..... I hear Boston has the most votes of confidence.

The Hurricanes are tied 2 - 2 with the Devils. Hope the Canes can make it past the first round.

Boston Bruins fan here.
Been with the black and gold since the Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito, and Gerry Cheevers days. One of the thrills of my life was meeting Orr and getting an autograph from him. (wish I could find it!). Had the Cheevers mask with all the stitches on it and played street hockey with it a ton.
The B's have gone through some tough but some exciting years here and there. But this years' team evokes the memories of the 70's teams.
Sweeping Montreal was awesome! (sorry my Canadien brothers)
Hope they can go all the way.

Boy, what an end to the Jackets/Wings Series last night! I was fortunate enough to be a part of that, and it was truly unbelievable. The fans didn't want to sit! We came back twice from a 2 goal deficit, but lost on a power play goal (in the last minute!) involving a somewhat controversial call. The third period was totally "Hudson Bay/Pond Hockey" rules, so virtually penalty free. Well I should say CALLED penalities, plenty of penalizing going on! The jackets even had a player that was tripped intentionally before the puck was dropped on the face off and no call was made! But we had a great season and know this is just the beginning! The heart that our group of guys have is great and not really something I've seen before quite like this. They even took the time to salute the fans after the handshake at the end of the game.

How about the Ducks/Sharks game! What an earth shattering event hehehe. I tuned in just in time to see them fixing the glass that shattered between the benches.

Well I'm looking forward to watching Boston Togo. They now have my backing! I hope they make it this year! Its been to long!

Redwings in the NHL, and the Tri-city Americans for my local team.

When I can find it on TV, I watch hockey purely for the brawling and wanting to see somebody get his bell rung from a vicious check, especially ones that shatter the side glass.

Your Canes played a great game the other night. They dominated especially in the first two periods. They deserevd the win big time.
Cam Ward scares me. A hot goalies in the playoffs can go a long way. If he plays goal like the rest of the series, we may be in big trouble.

I do miss the old Hartfiord Whalers though.
Mostly their old team song Brass Bonanza!

Ouch. Carolina gets another big win! Again they outplayed Boston so they get the well deserved win.
The thing that has impressed me is their speed. They fly around the ice.
Come on B's get the mojo back.!

My computer is fixed now, so I'm back Togo. Game 4 coming up. Yeah, Cam Ward is a great goalie and he's young too. A lot of good years left. smile.gif

Canes take game 4! One trivia note, in every play off game that Eric Stahl has scored, the Canes won. In every playoff game in which Stahl failed to score, the Canes lost.

TCS my Bruins have their backs against the wall. Your Canes have shown they are the better team right now. They are stifling the Bruins. We can't even get shots on goal never mind score any! Great forechecking and disrupting the Bruins attack.
Come on B's let's get tonight's game!

Posted by: TheCarolinaScotsman 11-May-2009, 12:09 PM
Well, Togo, your guys made mincemeat out of the Canes last night. Hope my guys bounce back for Game 6.

Posted by: togo 11-May-2009, 05:12 PM
Yeah great game for the Bruins. Can they keep it going?? Too deep a hole?? Canes just have a bad game??
I see the Canes fired up at home for game 6 and putting it all on the line to try to finish this series. Hope the B's match their intensity and play like last night.
I see Ward as one of the biggest keys of the game and whoever seems to forecheck the best has gotten the W's up to this point.

Posted by: TheCarolinaScotsman 13-May-2009, 05:12 PM

The Bruins were there for the start of the game at 7:00. The Canes showed up about 7:30. Don't know where their heads were in the beginning, but they dug a hole too deep to climb out of. Down to one game, winner take all.

Posted by: togo 13-May-2009, 05:19 PM
Quite a turnaround in the series. The B's look strong now while the Canes need to regroup.
Nothing like a game 7 in hockey!!

Posted by: TheCarolinaScotsman 14-May-2009, 10:04 PM
Talk about a tight series. It came down to overtime in Game 7. In a game that might have gone either way, the Canes finally clinched the win 18 minutes into overtime. They take the series over Boston 4 to 3. Is their another Stanley Cup in their future?

Posted by: togo 15-May-2009, 04:43 AM
Exciting game last night. Game 7 overtime!
TheCarolinaScotsman your Canes played a great game again and deserved the series. It was a fun back and forth series. Good luck the rest of the way.
There's always next year....................

What a bummer togo! But it was a GREAT series!

Now who to root for...

Scott Walker is the Hurricane player who punched Aaron Ward in Game 5 and scored the winning goal in overtime in Game 7. Today, the Canes announced that Scott Walker's wife has been diagnosed with cervical cancer. The Walkers are "expecting" a positive outcome, but it is still a blow to Walker and the Canes organization and their fans. The Canes and their families have very much become a part of the community and we are all keeping Mrs. Walker in our thoughts and prayers.

Posted by: togo 17-May-2009, 07:04 AM
Wow. Yes we all hope and pray and wish the best for the Walkers.

Walker's incident with Aaron Ward was unfortunate, part of hockey (and Ward should have protected himself in my opinion). Even though he became a villian in Boston for a couple of days all reports are that Scott is a great guy and not a bad person in the least.
We wish him well in playoffs but multiply that by a million in our postive thoughts for his wife right now.

One interesting aspect of the series between the Canes and Penguins to watch is the match up between one of Cane's forwards and Pen's goalie. Eric Stahl is a star forward for the Canes; Jordan Stahl is the goalie for the Pens. In the off season, they are close brothers, but for the next few games, well, as I said, it should be interesting.
