Right now I've actually got CelticRadio.net on.

Currently it's "About Time" by the Bringers. In the CD player, however, is Sinead O'Connor/The Lion & The Cobra.

Right now it's Only Nineteen Years Old from the latest Danu album (which is absolutely fantastic).

Stuck in my head, however, would be Eileen Og. That song is such a horrible ear worm!

Well, right now it's Christopher Cross's "Ride Like the Wind" note.gif thumbs_up.gif Blame it on my hubby! I had my nice soft Celtic John Doan playing this morning while getting the girls ready for school. I left the room for a moment, and he changed CDs -- put in Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride"! That got me onto fun oldies all day - songs that remind me of Summer. laugh.gif (Actually, not all of the songs are "oldies" really. Some are just a couple years old. )

Not to worry! I still have my celtic tapes in our van, and this Summer music binge won't last very long. rolleyes.gif

Hey, Rindy, it's nice to see someone else who likes Metallica! I love lots of their songs, but my fave has to be "Of Wolf and Man" ( i like werewolves, lol).
Currently in the CD players in both cars is the new Nickelback CD. "All the wrong reasons" Hooked on them, truly. walkman.gif
I also have a copy of TSO's "Beethoven's last night" that I love. Unfortunately, we both had to work when they came to Tampa, so we didn't get to go see them in concert. sad.gif

I have one folder on my comp that is nothing but celtic music w/a little opera mixed in from "Phantom" it's my writing music.

Right now, CelticRadio.net, but earlier today I was listening to one of my favorite Celtic Christmas albums: The Barra MacNeils's "The Christmas Album."

I saw them a couple of years ago on a PBS special and was hooked immediately. I can't recommend the album highly enough. The highlight for me is the most beautiful version of Auld Lang Syne I've ever heard -- allegedly the version they perform is the original melody (quite different from the standard version).

The Barra MacNeils are a family group from Canada's Cape Breton region. Their Web site (http://www.barramacneils.com/) contains a fair bit of information about them. I absolutely love 'em and would encourage anyone (particularly fans of Cape Breton music) to check them out.

By the way, thanks for the warm welcome, Rindy. Happy to be here.

Hey guys,
I’ve got this song going around in my head,
and it goes like this…

Scotland bound, Scotland bound.
Have seen the world and I have found,
no grander land of history,
no grander land of mystery.
So raise a dram and drink with me,
for Scotland’s where I’m soon to be.
Though beautiful the world I found.
So grand a land, I’m Scotland bound.

Scotland bound, Scotland bound.
Though beautiful the world I found,
can’t break the ties that tether me,
can’t break the ties ancestry.
So raise your voice and sing with me,
for Scotland’s where I long to be.
Though beautiful the world I found.
No grander a ground I’m Scotland bound.

Scotland bound, Scotland bound.
Have seen the world and I have found,
no grander land of majesty,
no grander land of bravery.
So raise a glass and drink with me,
for Scotland’s where they’ll bury me.
Though beautiful the world I found.
So, grand a land, I’m, Scotland, bound...

Thanks walkman.gif

If you are going to stock celtic CD's I suggest you check the stores close by first. See what artists they carry. People are going to get the Chieftens and Celtic Women from the K & W Marts for $10 if they can. Other than that I think Gaelic Storm, Great Big Sea, Battlefield Band, Campercaille, Afrocelt, Ceili Rain, Barleyjuice. Dropkick Murpheys, Flogging Molly, and Real McKenzies I've seen at the Marts but they still sell because the stores usually don't push them and you usuall have to look for them. If a band has a greatest hits collections-go with that.

You can also gather info from various celtic music magazines, internet, and especially irishfest entertainment lists. The internet has so far been my best source for Celtic music-its like a big shopping mall with lots of samples to listen to. Amazon, CD baby, forums like this-all good sorces for info. For example, I would stock at least one good traditional band (Battlefield Band-Rain Hail or Shine), one slightly modern fun band with a bit of traditional sound (Gaelic Storm, Feinans, Young Dubliners, Gael Force), and some bands like Afrocelt which will mix the celtic with another world music tradition. And don't forget Riverdance-its getting very hard to find anywhere but this was first exposure most people had with celtic music and it leaves a wonderful impression.

Also, if you can hook up a system in you're store so that you can play either CD's or concert DVD's-do it. Some of the bands I listen to I first heard on a store speaker system. You may want to find Celtic moviesand instructional DVD's and stock them for sale
Just my opinion as an "once upon a time" jewelry store manager on merchandising. Good luck to you. You are fullfilling one of my dreams.

Well, this isn't celtic music, but it's really great. As I sit here in the dark surfing the web, I have music playing on the media player, and right now it's "Clumsy" by Fergie. I can't believe how much I like this song. It's like some sort of drug but in musical form, absolutely addictive.

The Who -- "I'm Free"

Takes some explanation -- I listen to a good Live 365 station called "Radio Vietnam" sometimes. An unbelievable range of late sixties/early seventies stuff, never fails to make me feel 20 again. (Not a 100% unmixed happy thing, you understand -- but very strong.)
