And by recently, I mean in the last year.

I ordered a Bear Kilt in September of last year, and based on the estimate on his site (6 months), I should have received it in March of this year. March came, no kilt. I checked the website, which had been taken down. In its place was a notice that he was backordered, and said that all ordered kilts would be made. I followed the link to his old site, and noticed that the estimate had been changed to "over 9 months". That means no earlier than June, and likely later. No problem...he's running the show himself, and I can imagine if he's got a decent product, he could get swamped with orders. I can dig that.

I'm patient...I won't get my kilt for the Pleasanton Games in California this year, and that's ok. However, while I am patient, I like to know when to expect it. Bear isn't returning calls or answering e-mails due to him not having Internet at the house, and he's backlogged. His friends have posted that he was sick, but is back to making kilts and getting caught up.

So I turn to you, my fellow Celts. Has anyone ordered a Bear kilt? If so, when did you order, and how long did it take for you to get it?

Thank you!

Well, to be honest, I'm not normally so patient, but I like what I've seen and heard of Bear Kilts, and got my heart set on one. smile.gif If it's much longer than a couple months from now, I'm going to get a refund and order from someone else.

I'm just curious about anyone else's wait from Bear. smile.gif

I wish I could tell you something, but I haven't heard anything about Terry (Bear) in months. I know that he was having health issues awhile back, but that he was trying his best to get through all the back orders he had. It's really too bad. I have one of his kilts that I bought about 3 years ago, and they are great. I hope you get yours soon.

As a side note...if you're looking for a decent low-priced casual kilt, have a look at Stillwater's kilts. I have 3 of them (2 Standards and one wool heavyeight) and they are incredible kilts for the price. Shipping time is super fast as well, only took a week to get mine and I'm in Canada!

I looked at Stillwaters, but they don't have the good ol' Buchanan's tartan. smile.gif I know I can wear any tartan, but I'm very proud of my family's tartan. smile.gif Maybe I'll get another tartan for my 2nd....maybe Buchanan Hunting. wink.gif

Like I said before...I think I'll wait. Bear has some nice-looking kilts, and I've wanted one for several years. I only wish I'd had the money to order one before I did. smile.gif Thanx for writing. I hope Bear is doing well. He seems like a very cool guy from what I've seen of him around the 'Net in the past. I'd love to go to kilt night in Vancouver. smile.gif

For anyone who was wondering along with me whether Bear was still around, he is. He has recently opened a new forum on his site, and he has definitely had a rough year, but he's still around.

QUOTE (Taliesin @ 28-Sep-2006, 10:24 AM)
For anyone who was wondering along with me whether Bear was still around, he is. He has recently opened a new forum on his site, and he has definitely had a rough year, but he's still around.

I recently exchanged emails with Bear. He told me that he still has a small backlog of kilts to make, then he will once again start taking orders for new kilts. I wish him well, the past year has been very rough on him.
