Don't know what got me thinking of this. Probably because I'm in the middle of a big bowl of leftover spagetti for lunch.

What foods do you really hate? Numero Uno for me: broccoli. Can't stand it.

President George HW Bush had a great quote:

"I do not like broccoli. I am the President of the United States, and I don't have to eat broccoli if I don't want to."

We go through a lot of it in our house. Maria and the kids love it on pizza and spagetti.

Oh, we do melted cheese, mozzarella, but they sprinkle the parmesan on top.

I havn't found anything I don't like, yet. I hated all the green veggies when I was a kid, and now I can't get enough of them. I did have a bad mango from a chinese restaurant last week that tasted like 4 day old Tilapia. It might be a bit before I eat mango again...

You even like broccoli? BLECH! How about brussel sprouts? DOUBLE BLECH! That's one thing I hate even more.

A mild white fish. Very bland but it does take the flavor of spices well.

Mine is peanut butter and grits (not together) I don't like either. I'm funny about food. If it doesn't look good I won't even try it.

I got sick from eating some bad grits one time and haven't been able to eat them since. I also don't care much for butterbeans. Or radishes.

I do not like green eggs and ham. I will not eat them SamIAm.

The first person to eat an oyster raw was either very hungry or very brave. Or both.

Posted by: Aragorn 18-May-2004, 01:37 PM
I have a tough time with LIVER puke.gif I also would not try oysters or hominy yuk!!!

Posted by: Annabelle 18-May-2004, 01:42 PM
I love oyster's Fried but not raw. I think it's the texture in my mouth that make me want to hurl!
Forgot liver too. Just add that to my dislike list. gee it's getting longer.

Posted by: birddog20002001 18-May-2004, 02:19 PM
Aragorn and Gtrplr shame shame; Grits and hominy help to form the basis of Southern cusine along with greens, pork, milk and cornbread, and I LOVE all of them.

Posted by: Blue_Rogue 18-May-2004, 02:28 PM
Brussel Sprout, Seaweed, Grits

Those are the first things that come to mind.

I don't really care for fish, I do love seafood though. Oyster, clams, crab, lobster, abalone, mussels........ serve them up!!

Posted by: Raven 18-May-2004, 02:39 PM
Bird Dog (the following best if read with the vocal inflection of a Southern Gentleman) (grin)

Here's a list:

Broccoli
Cauliflower
Tomatoes
Cabbage
Olives
Thousand Island dressing

Has to be fish (don't like the smell and texture) and then second, would be yams. They always taste like dirt, to me.

Spent my college years in North Carolina and still can't figure out the fascination of grits. It's like wallpaper paste, except slightly chunky.

Posted by: MDF3530 18-May-2004, 04:00 PM
For the most part, I also don't like white wine. I only drink it once a year at Thanksgiving. It does go pretty good with turkey. Otherwise, I like red wine.

There are a couple that I do not particularly care for, and they are:

Rice of any kind - No taste what so ever.
Noodles - They taste like paste. yucky.gif

Posted by: MDF3530 18-May-2004, 04:32 PM
I also don't like rice cakes. I try them about once a month and they taste like Styrofoam yucky.gif .

Ok I will agree with you there.

Asparagus. I loathe asparagus. And sashimi (raw fish w/o the benefit of being wrapped with rice and seaweed). Oh yeah, raw octopus is disgusting no matter what you wrap around it.

OTOH, I'm quite fond of liver, broccoli, brussels sprouts, Parmesan, and musrhooms. And many forms of sushi (raw fish w/rice & seaweed wrapping) are yummy. I like my oysters fried.

Posted by: wizardofowls 18-May-2004, 06:56 PM
I don't like any seafood other than shrimp. I can tolerate tuna in tuna salad, and can eat SOME fish (like Long John Silver's) IF its heavily breaded and SMOOTHERED in ketchup. Fish just tastes too ... well... fishy!

I also don't like raw onions, sweet potatoes, hominy, canteloupe, honeydew melon, Ranch dressing, buttermilk, grits, and oatmeal. there is probably more, but that's all I can think of right now.

Posted by: urian 18-May-2004, 07:25 PM
Hmm..growing up in an environment where you ate ti before it ate you I'd have to say that there is not much I won't eat.
I refuse to eat Hog Head Cheese, though. Oy. We would slaughter a pig once or twice a year. No biggy. But I watched them prepare head cheese one time...nope..will not eat it.
That and chitterlings...eww

Posted by: Annabelle 18-May-2004, 07:42 PM

Thought of another one: bleu cheese. Nasty!!!

Posted by: wizardofowls 18-May-2004, 08:03 PM
I agree with the bleu cheese and the chitterlings! And add to my list anchovies, pig's feet, tongues, livers, gizzards, oysters, caviar, "mountain oysters," sushi or any other raw meat, or hog brains (sometimes eaten in the south with scrambled eggs! BLECH!) Also don't care at all for wild game (deer, squirrel, rabbit, etc.)

About a year and a half ago, a specialty butcher shop here in the Chicago area got shut down. The reason why: the specialty was lions, tigers and bears (oh my!). I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to eat the meat of a fellow meat eater. That is too close to cannibalism for me eek.gif .

I have eaten Wild Rice from Minnesota/Wisconsin. It does have a flavor to it but the way it was prepared did not appeal to me.

I have eaten wild game, of North America, of just about anything you can think of with the exception of one and that is Opossum. I would try it once as long as I didn't have to clean it.

Lima beans,Ocra,rubarb....I could go on.....but the worst by far is...VEGIMITE!!!!!!
Don't ever trystuff this people....screw the old song.......this stuff tastes like pure evil

I like Vegemite, I 'make do' with that when I visit Australia - in the absence of Marmite. cool.gif I grant you it is a love it or hate it thing, though biggrin.gif

I don't like spinach or black pudding, or uncooked fish as in sushi or smoked salmon. Which is odd considering how much salmon there is available in Scotland!

Posted by: tsargent62 19-May-2004, 05:58 AM
I do like wild game, depending on preparation. My brother bagged an elk in Wyoming many years ago and it was the best meat I've ever had.

michaelcov, I agree, yuck to ocra and lima beans! I like rubarb, though. Especially strawberry rubarb pie or jam.

I love okra lima beans I don't really care either way I won't go out of my way to get them, but boy do I love rubarb, my wife made a strawberry rubarb pie last weekend while all of my family was here and it was wonderful with some vanilla ice cream.
I have never had any food with a suffix of ite in it except lite and I didn't like that so if vegemite, marmite, stalagtite, makingitupite etc.. tastes anything like THAT I don't want it.

Everything that anyone would ever need (or indeed WANT) to know about Marmite.

Ahk does anyone enjoy the occaisional steamin sack of haggis?

Posted by: Dreamer1 19-May-2004, 02:49 PM
I agree with a *lot* of the things you all have listed! Can't stand cooked spinach, not even the smell! Ditto broccoli (even with cheese!). Hubby likes fried oysters, so I fix them for him, but the girls and I eat other things. I refuse to eat liver, tuna, ochra, grits, homily, creamed corn, olives, raw seafood, (raw meat), water chestnuts, goat cheese, mountain oysters, pig's feet, frog's legs, kidneys,......the list goes on, but that's the main gist of it. rolleyes.gif

Cat! I don't like Sushi either. I don't know about Scotland, but it is a really big thing here. I was totally disappointed. I LOVE salmon though..........cooked!

I have to say that I really don't like mushrooms. It all stems back to my early childhood, when at the tender age of 5 my cousin told me that since mushrooms grow on manure, I was eating poo. As silly as it sounds, I haven't been able to enjoy mushrooms since...
