my father and i have started to look into our family history (at least on his side of the family) and combined with my mothers i am 25%irish 25%dutch and 50%german. all i know for certine is my grandmothers relitives were O'Cunnerns from ireland but i don't know for sure if there was really a clan or not. does anyone have any idea??? if not as a side note can you be taken in and prehapes join a clan? i know it wouldn't be by blood but sometimes faith and love is thicker then blood. just a question.

When I joined Clan Gordon, I was asked if I liked Scotch. Yes! I replied. "Go over to the clan tent and we'll sign you up." I've been a Gordon ever since. thumbs_up.gif

I would make an educated guess that O'Cunnern is a variant spelling for O'Connor, which is one of the great Irish clans. A google search for O'Connor Clan should yield considerable information.

well i don't know about dead...but definately feeling no pain!!! beer_mug.gif angel_not.gif

clans were never little but smaller families(septs) did swear to abide by the laws of the stronger and larger and the larger ones in turn swore to protect them...that was not too bad, but alliances could change alot and so could having lots of daughters to marry into better situations for the septs.

if you really want to go nuts there is also cadet lines coming from both clans and septs!!!!now you figure them out and you will be dead wink.gif

I think you should look in your family history a little bit more and be carefull. What exactly do you want ?Have you try to see if you can get help from an aunt or a cousin.Sometimes they can tell a lot about family. You can try to search your roots ,a lot a web site about genealogy and many forum where you can ask questions. But the real question is what is your goal , joining a clan???

I do hope you have not given up on finding your roots.
You ask about being taken into a clan.
Yes, most clans are happy you wish to display their tartan.
Diana Gabaldon was taken into Clan Henderson and wears our
tartan proudly. As an elder I would welcome you and your
family if you wish.
