There are a few other issues, but for the most part my Wife and I are REALLY happy!

Congratulations to both of you! What a blessing! The best thing about grandkids (so I've heard) is that when you get done spoiling them, you get to send them home to mom and dad to deal with! biggrin.gif

Congrats Dogshirt and haynes9 thumbs_up.gif thumbs_up.gif

I, like our Ms. Maggie, was 40 when our first Granddaughter was born. I had Just turned 50 and now I have 8 Grandchildren (5 of which are through my Kids marrying someone with kids already) but I treat them all the same. (4) Granddaughters and (4) Grandsons.

And yes it is True that you can Spoil them and then send them Home. That is the Best part of it all. wink.gif

I'm not old enough to have grandkids (although the color of my hair says different biggrin.gif ), but I do have three little angels in my life, two nieces and a nephew (look to my avatar for their picture), and just being around them brightens up my day! Back at my parents' old house, they used to love it when Uncle Mike would take them to the nearby school playground. It was closer than either of the parks in our old neighborhood, so we could just walk over.

Posted by: Dogshirt 07-Aug-2006, 10:59 PM
Well, it seems we are to have a Grand daughter. The kids found out but weren't supposed to tell us. Hey! you're not SUPPOSED to know until the baby gets here. That's the way it is! But Jessica blurted out SHE the other night sitting behind me in the truck, then said "This is hard, I'm going to give it away." I responded "You just did." So now the cat is out so to speak, and all that's left is the waiting.
That's the latest.

Congrats Dogshirt. So, have they picked out any names yet. At this point my two oldest are first years in college and the youngest still in high school so I'm trying to avoid the whole marriage/grandchildren thing at this point. I can barely afford gas for the cars so I can wait as long as they can. Good luck and have fun! Remember when they did something bad and we said. "I hope when you have kids..." biggrin.gif

Posted by: Dogshirt 07-Aug-2006, 11:20 PM
They haven't told us if they HAVE chosen a name, but like I said, they weren't supposed to tell us in the first place.
I don't think the magnitude of the responsibility has sunk in yet. Our son is not quite 21 and Jess is 17. I think she still has on her rose colored glasses. Jake has a good job and will be eligible for insurance next month, but they still have no idea how much a baby costs. We ate hotdogs and mac n cheese a LOT so we could buy baby food, diapers etc. So we'll wait and see if they get it.
And I was hoping to hold out till 55 for this, but I guess THAT'S not going to happen. wink.gif

Hey Dog, we'll sure keep the kids in prayer. It sure is different when the babies are your responsibility. My daughter, who is a wonderful girl, sure has a new found respect for her mom!

Have a great day, my friend!

I seem to remember that Phillips pork and beans cost five cans for a dollar along about the time we were buying baby food, diapers, etc. I've not been able to look a can of pork and beans in the face since. wink.gif

Let them have the rose colored glasses while they can. Reality will sink in fast enough. Sometimes it's the memories of the euphoria that keeps you going.

BTW- tell them Elspeth is a wonderful name for a little girl. *lol*

That is wonderful news. As time goes by you will wonder why you and your wife did not have grandkids first. My grandkids seem to "camp out" at my house. I would not have it any other way. We fish and crab together. We read books together and go and do things. They even go on vacations with us. Grandkids are truely a blessing from God. Enjoy them. cool.gif

Congratulations Dogshirt! I think that is so wonderful. You let us know how things are going and when the new one enters the world.

Awww, congratulations to you two grandpas! That's sweet news, thanks for sharing. Dog, yes they are very young but I think the young have more stamina for dealing with a newborn than older people might. And they have a naive optimism that is sweet, isn't it?!?

Oh, and Siobhan is a good name for a girl TOO ELSPETH wink.gif but its much harder to spell than it is to say ("shee-von") so I don't really recommend it. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Posted by: Dogshirt 09-Aug-2006, 06:59 PM
With a last name like Taasevigen I wouldn't worry about Siobhan! tongue.gif

Great news, Dog! Congrats to you and your sweet family! What a great thing!

Thank goodness she doesn't look like you wink.gif ! If my granddaughter looked like me, we're talking 80 before any guy would marry her!

This morning at 5:55 AM, my new grandson, Colten James Taasevigen, was born!
He is about a month early, and as such his lungs are not as developed as the Dr. would have liked. He will be spending a few days in the incubator and then if he does not improve he will be going to Yakima, the closest MAJOR hospital.
Even a month early he is as big as average babies at 6lbs 3 1/2 oz. His dad was 9/8 and his big sister was 9/2. If he had waited full term he would probably have been right in there with our family average.
He is doing OK, but the Dr. will be keeping a close eye on him for awhile. This is the Dr. that delivered our son, and this is his first 2nd generation, so C.J. is pretty special to him as well!
I will post photos soon and keep y'all updated.

Dogshirt, your clan is growing! Many, many blessings on your new grandson. He's a lucky little guy, and I am sure he is going to be both spoiled and also very at home in the big natural world with his grandpa -- let's see some pix soon as you can get them, and let's also hear how his sister and Otto are greeting him into the family.

Thanks all!!
The latest update is that he has been transported to Yakima, where they have a GREAT neo-natal intensive care unit. He was on 100% oxygen when he left, but was breathing around the ventilator. By the time we got down there they had reduced the ox. level to 36% and by the time I left him they had reduced it to 24%.
He is responding well, and the only concern is his lungs and they told me they are improving by the minute. They said he could come home in as little as 3 days or up to 3 weeks, but they are very optimistic.
More as I know it.

Congratulations on your new baby grandson!!! It sounds like he's getting the best care there is and improving really fast. I'm sure he will be home soon where he will have you wrapped around his little finger in no time, if he hasn't all ready. There isn't anything on this earth more precious than a sweet baby!

Posted by: gaberlunzie 14-Sep-2008, 11:38 PM
Congratulations on the new grand - baby!
It sounds like he is doing a great job; seems he is a little fighter. These are good news and I'm sure you will have him back home very soon and will spoil him rotten! wink.gif wink.gif

Posted by: TheCarolinaScotsman 15-Sep-2008, 11:20 AM
Glad to hear the good news on his rapidly improving condition. If he's as stubborn as grandpa, he'll be home in no time. wink.gif

Posted by: Dogshirt 17-Sep-2008, 08:57 PM
C.J. is now off the ventilator and is just taking additional oxygen nasaly. The daughter-in-law is out of the hospital and they will bestaying at the hospital down there in a camp trailor that her father took down. The hospital has hook ups there for just such cases. They tried feeding him last night, but he is working so hard at breathing that he is not "multi-tasking". So that will wait a day or two.

That is all the latest
