Ok, I'll admit to bias first off, and I will also say I can see where they come from on parts of it. But Sounds to me like they don't really realize what they have in that album. Sure it's a mix, and it's a mix similar to what they describe. But still, Rise's mix is different than others. Is it a bad thing to have a different kind of mix than what people are used to thinking of? Rise doesn't approach the definnition of 'Modern Celtic' in the same way as other bands do, and their work has a more contemporary/mainstream flavor because of it. Is this a bad thing? If you ask me, it's not a bad thing. It's just different. I like it. For those that don't, that's fine too. It's like Haggis, bagpipes, and pickled eggs. Either you like it or you don't. The author of that review apparently, doesn't like it.
