Hi all,

I am most happy to have been offered the opportunity to act as a moderator here in the Historical Archives by Celtic Radio.

I would like to start new subjects about different events in history.
Some of you have a good knowledge of history and I think it would make this topic very interesting for the ones who are fans like myself about history.

This forum will be to discuss any historical events,it could be about the famous battle of the Boyne or the events that lead to the signing of the Magna Carta to the construction of the great wall of China or the conquest of the east by Timüjin (the great Genghis Khan). Or anything about history itself.

I think it would be interesting in discussing these many events and stories , sharing the knowledge and also debating on it.

I invite all of you fans of history to start any topic you would like to discuss.

Thank you all. smile.gif Lady of Avalon

I have been reading a little about Col. Anne MacKintosh. She was the only female to ever hold military rank in Scotland back then. Her husband was a Brit. officer (Black Watch?) at the time when she called out the Clans. This in an attempt to put Prince Charlie back on the Scot Throne. The attempt was unsuccessful and because of her husbands British connections she survived. It was a very traumatic time and many left Scotland to avoid death because of the loss! I have some bits and pieces relating to the battle and aftermath that I will track down. Of course My "sept" appears to have been in the middle of it all. I would be interested in any information others might have.

I am wondering why on all my topics, they are marked with the yellow "moved" tag?

Hi jime307,

I went in your topics jime307 and they are not moved. The yellow dot means that there are no new posts.

I´ll check it out with Paul and let you know what happened.

Thanks,
Diane

One of the most irritating myths in Britain to-day is that of Arthur or Arturius. It is put about by established historians and experts that Arturius was born at Tintagel castle and was a welsh chieftain or King. These facts are know known to be false so why oh why do writers and film makers insist on this story line.
Arturius was in fact the son of Aeden Mac Gabran, Righ of Dalriada. This is Argyll or Airer Goidel ( land of the Gael). He was anointed by Colum Cille, the first ever to be so, and expanded the rule of the Gaels throughout Alba ( as Scotland used to called).Camelon near Falkirk was the legendary Camelot. This was in fact an old roman fort in the heart of the territory known as Manau-Gododdin,ruled by Aedan from DunAdd his impressive hill fort in Dalriada. Arturius married a pictish princess called Anora, who died at meigle in the heart of Pictish territory, after Arturius death. His death was prophesied by Colum Cille at a battle with the Meatae tribe at the foot of the Ochill Hills. His body was taken along the Luin river(forth) towards Aperpuill ( Aberfoyle ). It is not too fanciful to think that he would have been buried on Iona-the ancestral burial grounds of the Dalriatans. His sister-in-law was named Morganna.Arturius is depicted as having a small cavalry unit who rode about the land fighting the LLoegyr (Saxons), this again is not too fanciful as Arturius would have heard the tales of Fimm Mac Cuill and his Fianna ( a small cavalry unit ,the famed Combrogi, the brotherhood). I have studied and read about Arturius for many years and have come to the conclusion that he was Scottish (latin name for irish was Scottii ). One of our forgotten heroes.
Slainte.
