Celtic Radio Community > Technical Support > Ms Ie Dropdown Menu Problems

Posted by: DonMagee 16-Apr-2005, 11:22 AM
When using MS IE, the drop down menus for the site don't appear any more. I don't have this problem with Firefox. I recently installed the most recent MS security updates. (Should have known better, every time I do some problem results). Is that the problem?

I'm running WinXP pro with IE 6.0

Don, I'm using XP pro sp2 with IE 6.0 and downloaded latest security updates Tuesday night. I've not had a problem with the drop down menus. Don't know what your problem is, but it's not related to the updates.

Thanks for the quick response CarolinaScotsman. I usually access using Firefox, but was usint MS IE to access a site which requires it and then jumped from there to Celtic Radio. The issue may have been in my system for some time and I just hadn't noticed it. Time for me to check my IE options settings.

Mine are missing too. Running IE 6 sp2 on Window XP sp2 and just had the latest security updates installed today. But I can't say for sure when the dropdown menus disappeared. Menus ok with firefox.

It seems to be problen that we had before... the menues are gone for me also and I get an "error on page" in the tool bar when opening pages. Mac fixed this real quick the last time it happened. I believe he has been tweeking some scripts and this maybe a result.

I made a change a day or so ago that compresses the menu and loads it in a different format. Perhaps this is not compatible with XP Service Pack2.

Unfortunately, or fortunately - biggrin.gif - I don't have SP2. I actually uninstalled it because it caused my computer to slow to a crawl. Alot of people are actually not installing SP2, but maybe forced to install to remain getting security updates.

Can the people that have the problem now try the menu on this page or the main page. Make sure to refresh the page.

If that does not fix the problem then I am going to have to setup a computer with SP2 to test this out and see where it is bugging out.

Thanks Shadows for the screenshot! Seeing is believing! smile.gif

And thanks for everyone that brought this to our attention!

Menus are back. Thanks to all, especially Paul for the very fast fix.

Ok great. This means that SP2 does not support compression of the menu. Having compression on cut by 2/3's the load time.

The menu is a great feature and all, but I am not entirely happy with how long it takes to load. I guess we need to find a faster menu system that fits into the site at some point.

If you have cable or dsl it probably is not so much of a problem.

I'm going in to fix all of the menu's here and over at Arms & Badges. Thanks ago for everyone helping to squash this bug!!! biggrin.gif

Paul I had the trouble to, but I am not running XP or SP2 I have `98SE.
I don't think the trouble was limited to SP2.

It is working now on my system, THANKS PAUL!

I'll be sure to run a full test on all menus and browsers. It just might be a number of days before its complete.

The biggest slow down in loading our site is the menu system. I guess the challenge is to find a replacement that works faster but yet still offers our complete website at the click of a menu!

I am using a 56k modem with dialup and an excelerator and the load time is not to slow for me...Thanks for all your efforts Paul!
