A short history.

The traditional history and genealogy of the Clan traces it's origins to one Gilliecatton Mor, a grandson Muirich (or Murdoch),who became the Parson of Kingussie. From him came a family name of Mac-a-Phersain, the son of the parson which developed into MacPherson later on. At the same time, it was held that the original name of the MacPhersons was Cattanach. Whatever the real facts, it appears to be fairly evident that the MacPherson family was, if not the most ancient family of Clan Chattan, then one of the earliest.

The Clan MacPherson territory of Upper Speyside came to this family at the time of Robert the Bruce, for whom they had fought at Bannockburn, in return for helping to drive the Comyns from all of Badenoch. The task was undertaken and completed, and the Sons of the Parson moved in forthwith, becoming neighbours of the Mackintoches of Moy. In time, a MacPherson girl, Eva, married into the Moy family, and this union was the instance upon which the Mackintosh claim for the chieftainship of Clan Chattan was based.

I am a Lees fae Dundee. That's the MacPherson Clan. My last two kilts were in the family tartan, but this time I am picking strictly on colour-taste and have already chosen Sutherland. No tae knock the MacPherson tartan, it's very beautiful and I was married in it, but nowadays I like my wardrobe to be more subdued. I going to choose MacPherson kilt pin and probably family arms for my beret. Wee woman,- glad to hear that we have yet another thing in common. Still it's a pity that we are so far apart! Cheers. - Vorlich, (Alan)

Another McPherson here, mother's side (Clan Chattan). I was married into
the Henderson, but my children want to embrace Clan Chattan. Of course,
that makes me (mum) happy... biggrin.gif

The young of Clan Chattan is proudly caring the the great traditions and
stepping forward to proclaim their heritage. Check out the Celtic Music
link under, The Tuckers out of Clan Chattan. Have a listen then send them
an email and let them know you appreciate them. The two songs they wrote
and have included on one of their CD's.

My twin cousins and I'm proud of them................ band.gif

Curosity brought me here. I recently started searching my family history. My last name is McPherson. Is it possible there are different spelling options of MacPherson?
