Well, I haven't even touched my computer all week. I'm in track now. I've pretty much come home and gone to bed, I've been doing it for about a month but we had spring break and I um.. Slacked on my practice. Anyways, every single meet we were supposed to have was cancelled because of bad weather, until yesterday. We went to Riverton. It was a REALLY big athletics place they had 2 Discus Rings, 6 Shotput rings 4 long jump/triple jump areas and two high jump pits. I only had one running event which was the 400 meter run, I came in first on that to three other people (my mom's proud but it's not that big a deal) All three kids I ran against were pretty nice about it too for once (most teams loathe Jackson) and they all admited that they were short distance sprinters (me too ) and now I have to go to the "Best of the Best" meet on an event I don't want to run >:( I also throw Shot and Disc but I scratched all three throws on Discus, and din't get that far on Shotput, oh well I guess I'll do it, but I'd rather run 1 or 200. Anyone have stories, comments, or thoughts about their Track and Athletics experiences? Go ahead and post them! |

I ran the "mile and competed in the "hi-jump." I was good at the mile run (no "metric" descriptions back then) and only fair at the hi-jump. I had a big lung capacity which kept me running full bore the whole race. As for the hi-jump they watched to laugh at my style. My junior year I moved to a "consolidated " high school. I went from class C to class A sports. I tried football and nearly got killed! I had worked since age 10 with Dad and was able to buy a great car. Thus my, sport of choice became girls and I found I was good at that one. Slàinte, Patch |

Nice, One kid at the meet was doing high jump (note he was on our team) he jumped OVER the 6ft high pole and completely cleared the mat, unfortuanatly he landed on his head and suffered a concussion, as of right now, I'm unsure how he's doing. |

Back in the 1950's we didn't get mats. They had a pit dug at the hi-jump and pole vault. Periodically they got saw dust from the saw mill. I never cleared the pit but never knew how I was going to land. On a good day I could clear my height. Slàinte, Patch |

I wasn't very good in track. The only thing I fair at was the broad jump. It still amazes me to watch people get over that bar on the high jump. I really hope he is alright. Let us know if you find out. That must of hurt! I am glad you got to compete. Keep it up! I hope the weather starts to get warmer for you. Slainte |

We had a guy who broke the pole while pole vaulting and tore his bicep loose. His arm was never the same. The school replaced all the poles (three I think) Still gives me the chills. Slàinte, Patch |
