Puerto Rico was a blast. I can't speak for the big cities like San Juan, but the people of southwestern Puerto Rico around Cabo Rojo and Maricao are genuinely friendly and hospitable, and the countryside quite beautiful. I fervently hope circumstances permit me to go back next year.

I must also admit to a certain satisfaction sitting in an open-air bar in the tropics (87 degrees) in shorts and flip-flops smoking a Cuban and swilling Medalla while watching the New York parade (37 degrees; 20 with the wind chill factor).
