I would first give a million to my church to build a badly needed addition, I would buy three houses for my daughters, and then the wife and I would retire on what is left and travel.

    1. Freak out! w00t2.gif
    2. Pay off the mortgage
    3. Pay off my son's college loans
    4. Visit Scotland, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia Royal05.gif
    5. Buy a ranchito in Topanga, just big enough for _a_ horse cowboy.gif
    6. Buy a horse to go with the ranchito
    7. Buy the biggest, nastiest Macintosh graphics system that could be put together in a special effects director's wildest dreams
    8. Visit a financial planner to do something sane with the rest
All the above subject to... no, dammit, if _I_ win the lottery it's not subject to Hubby Dear's approval. So there. I also won't lie and say that I'll donate it all to world peace or ending hunger, either. Donations are included under item 8, and probably would be environmental causes.

Back at 'cha, Annabelle -- what would YOU do?

--------------------
Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?
Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow
Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning
Or behold the flowing years from the Sea returning?

Party. Party hard.

I'd pay off the mortgage, student loans, car loan, visa, my parents farm loan, my brothers mortgages, then travel and move home to open an ocean side inn. Of course, somewhere in there I'd have gotten myself a three storey garage and filled it with everything I've ever wanted. Plus, charities, charities, charities. And Bethel Comunity Church in Lochaber would get a new church, for sure. That thing's dated, and not in a good way. We're talking late 70's.

Do you realise how much money 38mil is? And up here, we don't get hardly taxed at all on loto winnings.

Old raven and Silver Dragon

I agree with you both, freak out and then party, frek out some more then when I get tired of partying, payoff everything for the family, do something for the friends that have been there thru thick and even thinner, church, charities, then party some more.
I guess that sums it purty good, yep.

I would spend the first million on wild living and then blow the rest and file for bankruptcy tongue.gif

Seriously lottery winners are reputed to have a higher than average incident of bankruptcy, so my main thing would probably be to avoid this and not embarrass my self unsure.gif

It all depends on whether or not I'd take the lump sum or the annuity. But seeing as how we're just sitting here at the BS table, I'd probably move to an affluent community in Chicagoland, buy a few nice things (a plasma screen tv, Bose™ home theater system, Aston Martin Vanquish, & a plasma screen Mac to name a few), pay off some outstanding debts, invest in real estate, put my nieces and nephew through college, and sock away the rest.

You know, I buy a lottery ticket every now and again, but I never really thought about what I'd do if I won. Now I have and here's what I came up with:

Hire a financial advisor

Set aside enough to send my daughter to Aggieland (TX A&M)book.gif so she can be the singing-dancing-small animal vet she's always wanted to be Invest it!

Build the perfect house for me and mine with an east and west wing so my sister's family could have one end and we could have the other (that oughta thrill the heck out of my brother-in-law and my hubby evil.gif) Invest it!

Send my husband to Full Sail just like he wants (Full Sail) Invest it!

Have the wedding of my dreams and the honeymoon to go with it Invest it!

Buy a horse ranch and ride and ride and ride and ride any time I want and wherever I want to go biggrin.gif Invest it!

Take care of old soldiers (veterans) Invest it!

And, of course, I'd invest it (subliminal messages get me every time)

roguepagan,
I've got a real soft spot for Texas A&M..I just love the spirt of that College!
It , on a whole just has UMPH!
I laughed my head off over the , "Honk if Im an Aggie " bumperstickers..
Its such a fine school , yet the poke fun at themselves..
what a great college experince it would be to go there..

That being said..
If I won big, Id pay off my friends mortages, give the kids college money..
Find a good advisor then..........
Rescue, every singe mare that is breed for deprova shots...and have them as window dressing , for my farm ( which Id buy * wiggles her eyebrows* )

Pump money into animal birth control, so shelters would not be filled with dogs and cats that were " mistakes"

Give give give to literacy and the arts.. if you can read, you can do anything..
and every child should be able to draw or dance or sing ! with joy in their hearts .
Regardless of what Simon whatshisname thinks of their lvl of talent !
I'd have some fun helping others..

In Service to the Dream,
Paula

It would depend on how much I won. Most of it goes to taxes anyway. That is the first thing I would have to do.

Then,
1. cut it in half, give the other half to ten needy charities
2. buy a house
3. Put at least 10 million in stocks, bonds and CDs
4. Leave a couple thousand in the checking account
5. Put the rest in the savings
6. Act like it never happened.. after I buy an ipod

I've given this some thought in the past.

I would give mom enough money so that she would never worry about spending too much.

Help my brother get his business off the ground.

Rebuild the computer lab at my school to include PowerBooks, Smartboards, projectrs, digital cameras, and site licences for all of the best software. Then I woud endow the school with enough money to keep it current.

Buy a and run B&B in Cahirciveen, Co. Kerry. The one that overlooks Congloss Pt. Just outside of town, on the rignt.

Of course, CelticRadio contributors receive a discount.

Pay off all my debts, pay my daughter's debts off. I would make sure my Mom was comfortable. Help the poor. Contribute to charities.

I would buy my husband a F350 Ford truck with a diesel engine. Buy a big farm house with gingerbread trim and a wrap around porch with a tree lined drive. Furnish my farm house with antiques. My farm would have 500 acres and we would raise horses and beef cattle. This would be a family business with all the daughters and sons-in-laws working. biggrin.gif

After that I would get me a passport and head over the big pond to Ireland. I would go to Scotland, Wales and England. But most of my time would be in Ireland.

I would have a smaller version of a castle built and furnished and I would invite all you nice folks and your families for a week of getting aquainted and have a big banquet with all the food catered and hire celtic singers to entertain us. We would have a fun time! biggrin.gif Then I would probably go back to Ireland!

What would I do? I see a boat with sails and I see snow. I am on the boat with the family and the snow is in a picture hanging up in the galley reminding me how cold winters used to be.

Money would also be spread out amongst friends and family.

I've always thought that I would buy a large house in a very rich, snooty section of town and hand it over to a bunch of homeless people or punk rockers who like to party.

I'm so conservative the first thing I'd do is to pay off my house...they I'd put 10K in a fund and have the electric & water company make their withdrawals from there so I'd never have to see a utility bill.for a while..then I'd buy my husband a porche and me a new jeep...then I'd pay off all of my kids college bills and then I'd buy airplane tickets for:
Richard & T
Elspeth and hubby
Mc and his latest squeeze
Keltic and his sweetheart
3R and whomever she desires
Old Raven and OldRaven-et
Mac and wifie-poo
Scottish2 and Scottish3
and all my new friends to come here for the weekend and I'd hire a scottish band ((Neil) to play music for us all weekend.

Now doesn't that sound just grand! It would make me smile!
Money doesn't buy happiness. It only makes life a little easier to get by!

Uh, no, I suppose I'd have to change the order on that one. Or perhaps I should've clarified what I was saying more. I didn't have a big church wedding (JOP thing, you see) and I'd like RENEW my vows with him.
