I love Celtic Music (obviously, or I wouldn't be here), but I'm by no means an expert on all the material, so I was hoping some people on here could help me out. I'm getting married in the fall and we're having a sort-of Renaissance/Medieval theme with Celtic musicians playing during the ceremony, etc. though we're having a DJ for the dancing part. I thought a Celtic track would do well for a first dance. Can anyone recommend some titles I should check out? I would love to find a song with medieval/castle imagery, but I'm open to anything!

I appreciate any help you can give me! Thanks much!

racingfan,
Celtic music has some very romantic choices. Although I am a little cynical about romance anymore (I'm getting too old!), for me I like "Dark night of the soul" by Loreena McKennitt.
I am sure some of our lovely ladies that frequent this forum will have some better suggestions.
Good luck!

Racing,

Are you looking for a "traditional" celtic song or contemporary? There are actually albums of just Celtic wedding music. But it depends on what you want. Most of those are mostly instrumental and more traditional.

Good point, I should have specified that one sooner -- I'm looking for contemporary, and preferrably with lyrics.

Thanks again!

Oh, and j Padraig moore, "Dark night of the soul" is quite beautiful. Maybe a little too melancholy for a wedding though...

I will wrack my brain on this one. But, off the top of my head, here are some I like. Though they may not be what you are looking for.

One of my favorites has always been The Pogues “Love you ‘Till The End”.

The Frames “Lay Me Down” is VERY pretty. A Good romantic song if you don’t listen TOO closely!
But they have SEVERAL really good songs.

There is a Celtic Cover of the Cure track Love Song

Coinneach – Its called love. I also love “Closer Now” off of the same album.

Val

I'm a big Blackmore's Night fan, and that is a good cd -- my problem is, most of the songs on there are kinda downers (Castles and Dreams, I still remember you, I think Now and Then is on that one). I dunno, which song on that CD do you think my work? I love their sound...

And thanks, lschillinger I'll give those a listen!

The biggest challenge is finding a song by my fiance and I like -- his favorites are Up Where We Belong and Glory of Love (that old Peter Cetera song) and I want something different lol. Keep the ideas coming! Hopefully one will work!

Thanks so much!! wink.gif

Those are all nice songs, thank you! I'm still hoping for something, though, with a more medieval feel for the wedding though, something that makes you think of knights, castles, princesses -- that kind of thing. If anyone has more ideas, I'm still open! Those are all nice songs, thank you! Racing Fan... due to the whole "medieval" feel... but contemporary with lyrics... jump on over to the website for Coyote Run. Their instrumentals, vocals and overall quality are wonderful. They have numerous pieces that are done for the whole Renny crowd, and they are also Celt performers. Give their goodies a listen and let them know that their kiltmaker says "yo". wink.gif
