I didn't know if this belonged in the parenting board or here. If I am wrong please feel free to move it.Sorry
I had a conference with my little one's teacher yesterday. It was nothing big in the regards that it was the first report card and it was required that all parents have conferences to discuss where their child stood in relation to the curriculum, other students, and the recommendations of the teacher for what the parents can do at home to help.
I have always known Logan was brighter than the other kids. When he was in HeadStart he was advanced from the 3year old to the 4 year old room just to try to keep him interested(that only moderately worked). It was the same way in Pre-k only they weren't allowed to advance him to kindergarten(ugh).
So, I sit down with his teacher and she pulls out his report card and shows me that..how did she put it? She said:"He knows everything already." They had a spot to circle for each letter they learned(upper and lower), the numbers to 100(he knows to 200 by ones, twos and fives), shapes(she had to draw the ones that weren't one there that he did know) and various other things. anyway, eveything was circled already.
She said she was having to try to teach end of year and 1st grade stuff just to keep him interested and that she had taken the initiative to get him started in the GT(gifted and talented)program. She said he wouldn't officially be in it until the 1st grade but that it would be a shame for him to go to waste in a normal class.
I was calm and collected and told her that we(my exwife and I) were going to wait until after the first report card to ask about GT but that I was ok with it and I knew my exwife was. I told her that I had been worried about whether or not Logan was being challenged and I appreciated her taking that step.
Inside..I was strutting around like the cock of the walk! MY little boy was the tallest, biggest(he's the size of most 8 year old) and the smartest 5 year old in his class..maybe the school! YAY! I was proud of what my exwife had done to raise and teach him, I was proud of our times reading and playing chess, I was proud of it all. I was even proud of my genes for contributing to the mix that became him!
YAY!

anyway...I'll shut up now..thought I'd share the bit of good news

That's wonderful, Urian! You might even want to consider dragging home some of the second grade-level workbooks from teachers' shops and running some of that past him. Keep him interested!

That's great news, urian. you (and Logan) keep up the good work. I've always felt my daughter was a bit smarter than most other kids, and I hope she does just as well in school as Logan. Something to definately be proud of!

WAY TO GO LOGAN!!

YOU DID OK TOO URIAN!

Why is it we're ten times prouder of what our kids do than what we do ourselves? Enjoy it Michael. There will be many such moments along the way and you have every right to burst with pride. Be sure to always let Logan know you're proud of him, not for his achievements (though you are proud of those), but you're proud of him just for being him.

We are prouder of our kids(I believe) because they have all of the potential and promise. All the light and future in them that we may have wasted. Becuase we (as paretns) want them to be more than what we are. ..anyway..I ramble

I do,bill..I all the time... I pick up where my dad failed with me. Never has a moment of time I have spent with logan go by that I dont let him know ho wmuch I love him or how proud I am to have him as my son...and blessed...
anyway..

Congrats to you and Logan, Urian. It's a blast when our kids show the potential that we, as parents, already know is there. I find myself learning from my stepson everyday (might as well be my real boy since I've raised him the last 10 years and he takes after me in alot of habits).

Keep up the tremendous good parenting!!

Urian, there is nothing wrong with just stating the facts when it comes to your kids sweetie!
