Posted by: Macfive 16-Mar-2006, 07:21 PM
A Happy St. Patrick's Day to all CelticRadio.net members!

We'll cut to the chase and tell you about our days events now:

Music: Starting tonight (night before St. Paddy's Day) we are switching our broadcast to a special mix of music that is ideal for St. Patrick's Day festivities. Requests will be disabled tonight and all of St. Patrick's day. Yeah, I know you all love requests, but to keep the broadcast sounding upbeat for the day, we don't want to be playing alot soft music - after all it is time to raise those glasses high!

Giveaways: We mentioned in our news letter that we will be bringing back the "Instant Contests!" So you may ask, what is an Instant Contest? Basically just keep watching this thread throughout the day and we will post a prize. The first response to the prize wins the prize! (response must be made in this thread) Cool, eh?!

We will also be randomly selecting people that are logged in to win a prize. If you win you should receive a pop-up private message from myself. Just respond that you accept the prize and send us your mailing address. Please note that we will give you an hour to respond and if there is no response, the prize gets raffled off.

Well, thats about it. Hope to see you logged in tomorrow!

We'll giveaway a few of these prizes in the morning, most in the afternoon and a few tonight. So keep a sharp eye on this thread! smile.gif

Oh, and I have to tell you that it is Killian's (my lovely wife) birthday today. Yes, she was born on St. Patrick's Day and I do plan on taking her out to a little local pub, so expect most of the prizes to be given away in the afternoon! thumbs_up.gif

Posted by: Macfive 17-Mar-2006, 09:26 AM
Katcynth takes the free 1 year membership in the Celtic Radio Founder's Club. Congrats!

Up next we will have a CD up for grabs. And I have to say this is a beautiful CD by our front page featured artist - Celeste Ray.

Strings of Gold:

From Celeste, "Strings of Gold is my most recent CD and represents a tribute to Folk and Irish music. Most of the songs are traditionals with original arrangements. After performing numerous concerts and listening to my friends' and audiences' feedback, I came up with this particular collection of "jewels."

A collaborative creation, with the talents of James Gilchrist, Eric Mauriello, Darius Kaufmann and Andrew Potenza, may you find "Strings of Gold" to be as precious to your heart as we do!"

http://www.celesteray.com/

You know the rules, first to reply gets this CD. Make sure you email us your address and the prize you have won to help us out.

The next prizes will be coming in the early afternoon probably around 1:00 (EST).

Ok, now here is a Celtic Radio favorite, the Almost Irish CD from Ceann featuring everyone's favorite "The Worst Pirate Song"

“Almost Irish” was recorded over a 7 month period a KMA Studios in New York City with engineer Charlie Blass. It features guest musicians such as former Black 47 and current Seanachai and the Unity Squad frontman Chris Byrne (Uilleann Pipes, Tin Whistle), Mr. North’s Emmett O’Malley (Guitar), Tommy Walsh (Accordian), and Rich McDaid (Fiddle). The band is also promoting CD release shows in all their normal stomping grounds, including their original hometown of Pittsburgh, as well as Philadelphia, Chicago, Washington DC, Virginia Beach, Boston, New York, and many others. With over 120 shows already booked next year, 2006 will be a different kind of year for the boys of Ceann, and a different kind of year for Irish music."

Does anyone have special plans for the evening?
My husband and I will be without children tonight. We may actually go out and enjoy the festivities.

Posted by: ridgeback77 17-Mar-2006, 01:33 PM
The missus and I are going out with a friend. We will be heading to one of the 15 Irish Pubs in town. Not sure which one as of yet, but I'm sure I'll find out soon enough.

Posted by: LoriCelt 17-Mar-2006, 01:41 PM
You are lucky to have so many Irish Pubs to choose from. We have 1 in our area. We live in a University town so most of the clientele are college students.
We may check out a really unique place in town with great food that usually has bands/music from out of the area (usually from Chicago and Detroit). Not an Irish Pub. . .but, hopefully some good music and food!

Posted by: ridgeback77 17-Mar-2006, 01:48 PM
It is nice to have such a wide selection of pubs to choose from. There are quite a few downtown, about 4 buy the university, and the rest are scattered around town.

Posted by: Macfive 17-Mar-2006, 01:50 PM

I would think sqeezing through a 2X4 would be difficult to begin with. Now, a framing space between two studs at 16" o.c. is a different matter.

Hit me!

Ha ha!!! You got it Haynes!!!!

Thats it!!! Thanks everyone for a great St. Patrick's Day. I think we enjoyed giving away these prizes just as much as you guys winning them!

I'd like to thank everyone that made today such a great day. Good music, good conversation online and alot of fun. Just the way it should be. Hope you all got to raise your glasses high and just celebrate the day. Maybe you got to go to a pub, see some Irish dancers, or hear a little live music - who knows. If not, you always got CR to keep ya company. 24 - 7!!!!

Now, I'd like to take just a brief moment and dedicate the contests and music today to the memory of Christina Anne Wojcik. She's my wife's niece and died tragically last year. St. Patrick's Day was one of her favorite holidays and she loved Celtic music. Every year she would call my wife today and wish her a happy birthday. I'm sure she is smiling down upon us all knowing that we did all we could for her....

Remember to enjoy every moment and be happy with what you got. I am sure that is what she would want us to do....

Happy St. Patrick's Day Everyone!

Go n-éirí an bóthar leat
Go raibh an ghaoth go brách ag do chúl
Go lonraí an ghrian go te ar d'aghaidh
Go dtite an bháisteach go mín ar do pháirceanna
Agus go mbuailimid le chéile arís,
Go gcoinní Dia i mbos A láimhe thú.

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

Hey, just wanted to let you know that the fashionable Highlander Radio T-shirt arrived today in good shape. It looks great! Of course, my wife wants to know what I'm going to do with ANOTHER T-shirt, but I am telling her it is for a good cause - to spread the word about Highlander Radio!

Thanks for the contest and have a great day!
