I got the most disturbing email today! I am so sad! I can't believe this, our local Celtic Festival and Highland Games have been cancelled this year. I just don't see how in the world this happened. NO explanation why or how! Now I'm just broken hearted. NO pipe bands, no guys wearing kilts, no music, no men in kilts, no highland games, no jigs or reels, no guys in kilts, etc. It's a sad, sad day!
When you folks are enjoying your Celtic Festivals and Games, remember me, I am deeply depressed! My world has fallen apart!
Oh my dear, dear friend! I am SO SORRY! I can see why you are so distraught! No games, no jigs, no reels, no men in kilts... How will you EVER get past the disappointment?
Seriously though, how disappointed you must be! Are there any other games nearby that you can visit?

Would that be the West Virginia Highland Games and Celtic Festival in South Charleston? Their website content has disappeared and that festival is usually around this time.
COme up to the Higland Games in Ligonier. Can't be that far. I mean you CAN'T go a whole year without seeing men in kilts.

Compassion is the sometimes fatal capacity for feeling what it is like inside somebody else's skin. It is the knowledge that there can never really be any peace and joy for me until there is peace and joy finally for you too. - Frederick Buechner
If society prospers at the expense of the intangibles, how can it be called progress?
We also have the Maryland Renaissance Festival in Annapolis MD. (http://www.rennfest.com/mrf/). They have the Scottish Celebration on September 18, 19. It is a Celtic celebration featuring music, highland dancing, and caber toss demonstrations.
You could also come to the Radford Highlander Festival on the campus of Radford University in Radfor Virginia on Oct 9! I will definitely be there, but alas I have no kilt! Good thing, as then there would be no one there because everyone would run in fright!
You good folks have eased my pain. Thank you so much for your kindness, slowly I am getting over the shock of it all! The Festival and Games came to Beckley in 2002. They used to be held in Charleston, WV. I have no clue what the problem is. The past 2 years that I went they always had a crowd and everyone seemed to enjoy it so much.
WizardofOwls, Radford is not too far away, a hop, skip and jump! Maybe I'll see you there! Shucks, maybe I'll win the lottery and I'll spend the rest of the year and the next and next visiting the Festival and Games! Then I'll treat you all and we'll fly over to Scotland and Ireland and live for a month or so! A girl can dream can't she?
BTW: My crying towel is soaked, anyone have a dry one!
Oh Maggie! I do so hope you decide to come! Please let me know as it draws closer to time so that we can arrange some way to meet! I would be SO disappointed to find out that you were there and I didn't get to meet you!
Did I tell you that Enter The Haggis will be there? They were there 2 years ago and were outstanding! Go to www.radford.edu/festival to find out more! I was already excited and impatient for the festival to get here! Now I'm bouncing off the walls!
Also, if you come, be sure and come early for the parade that kicks off the festival at 10 am. In addition to the usual local high school bands, there are always at least 3 bagpipe bands in the parade (bagpipe bands=men in kilts! )
