Mike! you made me laugh out loud! It is very obvious that I need to go to the east coast for your Highland games! Geez! I never saw any wisky or suds at my games last weekend. The best I got was a doorstop meat pie! I was really missing out. I hope to go to the ones in Flagstaff, so maybe it will be better there!
Don't they have web pages for the festivals out there? It should tell you what's included in the days activities. I always found drinking to be an activity. One that I try to excel at.

Yes! they have web pages for the festivals out here. In fact, I just got one for the Highland game for Flagstaff and made our reservations already for July 17, 18! Hubby will be with me so hopefully there will be some suds to imbibe in!
I am so excited I can hardly contain myself. I love Flagstaff as it is nestled high up in the mountains of Arizona and it is so beautifull! Only an hour from the Grand Canyon. I have been to many Indian powwows up there but never a Highland game. so I got my reservations and I going to see my favorite author and the Wicked Tinkers! Yippee!
Woweeeeeeee! really harper? I used to live in Asheville and at the time I was not into Highland games, let alone ever heard of them. I know exactly where Grandfather Mountain is! Boo hoo! Wish I had known then what I know now, but at the time I was hanging out at Native American powwows and enjoying myself there tremondously. It is amazing how many similarities there are between the Highlanders of old Scotland and the Native American culture here.
Paula! You would love the powwows. So rich in culture, wonderful people and good food too!

Rosemary, I think you said this was at the same place as the POWWOW's you went to. Maybe it's in your best interest to bring your own whiskey, just to cover your a**. You know what happened to General Custard, the last time he didn't bring whiskey to the POWWOW??!!!!

Mike! Better believe I will be bringing my own brew! I bring it everywhere I go! always have to be prepared you know! They don't allow alcohol at powwows. But I swear I have the best beer at Renaissance festivals! I have drank Scotch before and got so sick I thought I would die and so have never touched it again. But it could have been the blind date I was on, I NEEDED the Scotch and took in too much!
New to the board, and looking to get seriously involved in honoring my Irish heritage (especially the whisky drinking and really loud off-key singing!!!!)
I read upthread that Williamsburg, VA holds games each year??? Well, now that I know!!! I live 45 minutes from there! (Virginia Beach)
Anyone know of any others in this area??
And, even tho I have never been, I am pretty sure I know what will be my favorite. Any time I get to hear bagpipes (there was a lone piper at a friend's funeral...I could not even talk...) it moves me.
