So, I'd better reply to multiple posts at once since I have only a little time today. biggrin.gif Pagan here, but not wiccan. Sorry if that disappoints. unsure.gif I am a liberal pagan, meaning I do not discriimnate based on pagan-type LOL. I am in a pagan online group that includes all kinds of pagans- Santerian priestesses, Sabians, Wiccans, and wink.gif "Non-denominational Pagans". I myself lean towards the old Celtic Gods, while my sweetie is more attuned to the Germanic and/or Slavic deitites, and we get along just fine LOL. Still others I have known are into angels and see Christianity and Paganism as being very "enmeshable". Interestingly enough, when Abraham went into the desert and came out with the "One true God of Israel" He brought the High God from the Chaldeans and it became the Jewish God and the Christian God. So christians come from a very pagan religion, even the regalia of the catholic church is "stolen" from the middle eastern pagans. It is interesting to note that Jesus follows similar paths as other resurrected sun/good/light deities like Tammuz/Damuzi, Bel, and Ba'al. I think even Horus and Osiris kind of fit the profile. Baldur (sp.?) certainly does too- you know the one killed by the sprig of Holly? The "son of God" died and resurrected... doesn't sound like any other religious myth to anyone else, does it?

Here is an interesting bit of info for you... I don't know if this is relevant, but...When Babylon took the judaic empire, the daughter of the Judaic royal house (Tamar) was sent to Ireland (or maybe scotland?) to secure the line and make sure they did not die out (circa 700BC). One of the things she was sent with was the Lia Fail- the "stone of destinies". I have found no reference in Celtic myth as to where the lia Fail came from... I found this in judeo-christian studies.

In middle eastern culture, the Stone of Destiny, or Stone of Fate, (tablet of fate) was the bond of the king to the gods and earth. It gave rules that the king and others should live by to make sure that the People and the Land were cared for in the sight of the gods. A very celtic sentiment if you ask me. The laws or rules were very simplistic and easy to understand on a common sense level, but also very esoteric as well.

The point of interest here, Judea knew of Ireland-enough to send the daughter of their royal house, perhaps other middle eastern countried knew of the isles as well? Certainly later during the reign of Alexander, the British isles would be known to the middle east (circa 300 BC), and who's to say language and ideas were not traded in earlier times? I would be interested to know how close Farsi (Persian) and Welsh are to old Aramaic (the "Lingua Franca" of the middle east for years upon years). Can someone ansewr that question for me?

My family was a mix of Catholic and protestant. My parents took me to church- but I never really "felt" God. They tried just about every chuch that was around- to see which one I felt comfortable in, but I never found one. I decided that christianity wasn't for me, and I looked into many other religions, sudying their beliefs and rituals, but I did not really believe in God until I was given a gift one night. I was about 15 and I was in a very tight spot- 30 miles from home on an "unauthorized trip" at 3am with no ride home... and I found a pay phone. I had no quarters and knew no one I could call collect, and I looked up and said, "well God, here's your one shot to prove it to me that you exist." Nothing happened, so I slammed the phone down and a quarter dropped into the change return slot. From that point on I believed in God, but I didn't really worship God, I felt god but didn't pray to god. (If you know what I mean)
I think to find God, you can't look in religion, you have to have a personal experience that moves your soul. I personally think that everyone's version of God is right, even if your God doesn't look like My god. I hope that people who choose a god to follow really feel him or her or them (as the case may be). I think that the most important thing to remember is that the one thing that all gods in every religion or belief system say is to love each other, love the friend as the friend, love your enemy as your friend too.

PS I'm a Pagan wink.gif but that's a different story
