Goodness gracious, you must have met the late great Fred Bahnson. He's the one who first brought over one of the most important people in the modern US Border Collie breed - and a good friend of mine - from Scotland. Jack would have been working there at the time, don't know whether you met him too. Jack would have been the one with the Scots Borders accent, while Fred was a native NCian.
Jack is so funny. He now lives in Missouri, but he still comes and does sheepdog training clinics here. A couple of years ago we were eating out and the waitress asked him whether he was from out of town. Jack said he was, and of course the waitress asked where he was "from."
"Missouri," Jack deadpanned. The poor waitress exclaimed that she'd never met anyone from Missouri before and he had a lovely accent. She continued to comment on it until someone finally filled her in on the rest of the story. Jack of course was a gentleman and apologized, but even the waitress enjoyed the joke.
