Being new to all this and wanting to attend some games in the UK. could anybody help out with a few details for 2004. general advice and guide lines for a new guy would be good too. hope I am not asking too much? Thanks Jax
I'm a bit rusty at sport these days. I was hoping to just soak up the atmosphere. so I was hoping for general advice on what to expect on the day and if you have to pay entrance fees etc
Well, yes, you do pay an entry fee, but it's not usually very much!
There are games, eg tossing the caber etc; there are dancing competitions; piping and band competitions; and horses and cattle on show to be judged. There are often sheep dog trials, too.
I'm not sure what you mean about 'general advice'...... do you mean you would like to take part in one or more of the events?

Thanks for that link Cat. Its been a few years since I was at a Highland Games and given that my holidays involves a tour of the West Coast this year I might just be able to make the Glenfinnan event on 21st August........

I love watching the sheep dog compititions!!!! Such intelligent animals.
My puppy is bred to watch over sheep. His current job is watching over the cats. He does a great job!

sheepdog trials are certainly very cool. I like them alot. I also like all sorts of domestic animal and vegetable competitions, as a city child I'm sort of lacking the understanding why growing the biggest Cucumber (I think with vegetables size matters: the smaller the more taste accumulated on one spot) is great but I love wandering through rows of vegetables that have been polised and garnished...
