We just get done with Valentine's Day and they are already putting Easter Stuff out on the shelves.
I really don't mind cause I love those little "Peeps" marshmellow candy. Especially like it when you pop the seal on them and let them get a little hard and then eat them. The one thing about peeps is most people I know are one extreme or another. They either love em or hate em.
What's your favorite Easter Candy? Do you like Peeps? Do you know what peeps are?

My wife loves'em but I'd just as soon run over them in the car, but I do like chocolate.

Posted by: corrigan 19-Feb-2004, 01:58 PM
I know what they are! I love them March through April and hate them the rest of the year. Just like candy corn is the best in October and November, but disgustingly sweet after Thanksgiving. My favourite Easter candy has to be a chocolate, dark chocolate, Easter bunny. Oh yeah, it has to be solid. And Cadbury Eggs, another sweet that can only be tolerated seasonally.

Posted by: Herrerano 19-Feb-2004, 02:23 PM
my favorite would have to be a really tasty ham, with pineapple and stuff on it.

Herrerano ham isn't candy? Although I do love ham with pineapple. It's funny how those candies are only good during their season. I totally agree. The rest of the time I could care less about eating them.

It depends on your definition of "candy". The Honey Baked hams have that brown sugar glaze on them that's phonomenal. That's definitely candy.

As for peeps, loved 'em when I was a kid, could take 'em or leave 'em now. Usually leave 'em.

Favourite Easter candy: chocolate bunnies. But it has to be a solid bunny. And none of that artificial chocolate crap. I wouldn't feed that to my dogs. I love them too much.

I see a question mark after that statement laugh.gif .

Ham is too candy. Candy is in the eye, err, mouth of the beholder.

I know what they are and they're alright, but my favorite is hersey's robins eggs, biggrin.gif

You are sooo right about the artificial chocolate, it has a weird petroleum product taste. I think they make the stuff in the same refinery that they produce the pastry filling found in the desserts on an oriental buffet.

Posted by: Annabelle 19-Feb-2004, 04:25 PM
I love hersey chocolate. I vote thumbs down on that artifical chocolate too. Tastes to chemicalish! Is that a word? Hummm, oh well it works.

My faves are Cadbury's eggs, chocolate bunnies, Reese's peanut butter eggs, and those little chocolate eggs that look like drops of pooh.gif but have Rice Krispies in 'em.

Hmmm, chemicals.

Better living through chemistry.

It's all about the http://www.marshmallowpeeps.com/. Mmmmmm. Eat their heads first, it's better that way. wink.gif

Someone said Hershey's which made me think of their Kisses which I can no longer eat because a co-worker from Pennsylvania got me turned on to http://www.wilburbuds.com/. They totally kick Kiss's butt, especially their dark chocolate.

Peeps are #1, but are followed very, very closely by Cadbury Eggs.....

There is something I think some of you ladies don't understand. We are a species of hunter gatherers. We yearn to hunt for our food, gather stuff. Hence Easter egg hunts. We give our children the joy of competing with our fellow primates in hunting down and gathering eggs. The kid with the most wins! Never mind that Mom says it's not a competition. Ah, horse pooh.gif ! The kids are satisfying their basic urge for survival of the fittest. Kill or be killed.

*the women are scratching their heads wondering what this idiot is ranting about*

Ham!

Eating ham reinforces the idea that we are masters of the world, having dominion over the creatures that walk the earth. Men enjoy the idea of eating ham or steak or roast or venison or whatever meat you please. It satifies that primal urge. Although most of us no longer kill our own food, eating meat brings us happiness just knowing that some inferior life form's former flesh is being crushed between our teeth.

So, you see, ham is like candy. It makes us happy. It brings us joy. king.gif

To me, not even a close second, I prefer a solid white chocolate bunny. And it has to be good white chocolate. Not cheap imitation stuff. laugh.gif

If Mondavi wine can be considered an Easter candy, than the white bunny just took a dump off the low end. cool.gif

Marshmellow Peeps! Yea

Peeps and Hersheys,, both made right here in Pennsylvania !
I'm so proud..
Peeps have to be a lil stale..
Did you know you can make them joust?
Just stick a wee cocktail straw thru them..
and face them off in the Micro wave..
and hit start !

Now for Ham..
Todd.. you don't need to go buy a Honey Baked Ham to get that glaze...
What you do need is .. throw away that sissy kitchen torch.. and get a
regular hand held propaine one at Home Depot..
Make your ham.. I brine my hams in sugar and kosher salt for a few hours,,
Funny how salt , takes the salt OUT of ham..
you can baste with pepsi or gingerale for the first part of baking..
I do the score, half bake , then stud with cloves. decorate with pineapple thing..
and back in the oven,, meanwhile...
melt , brown sugar, lite karo, pineapple juice.. burboun if you would like..
on the stove top..
When the ham is done, take it out and let it sit maybe half an hour ...
THEN , while pouring that mixture that you did on the stove top on the ham..
Spark up that bad boy and carmalise that glaze ! it takes a little practice , but if you burn it , so what, pick it off , and try again ... this ham will put a Honey Baked to shame.. and its less than a quater of the price .. no its not sprial cut,but I like it better anyway .. try it sometime !

Ooooooooooo, does that ham sound good. tongue.gif

Posted by: Arianrhod 31-Mar-2004, 09:28 PM
Thanks Richard,, and its easier than you can imagine..
some of those Ham stores, half a ham is fifty dollars ... sheesh ..
I'll slice my own .. thank you very much.. I can make the entire meal for a bit more !

OK... I love ham, sam i am, green eggs and ham! Ham is terrific almost every way you can make it! (except I don't really like it when it is green or when it is with green eggs!)

But the best is PEEPS! After they are OLD HARD STALE HARD and, oh yes, did i forget to say HARD? I love it when i find months old peeps hiding in the cupboards waiting to get hard so I can find and eat them! And the best part? They are now making peeps for all holidays!

I have a terrifice PEEPS story! My twin boys (now 21) have their birthday right around Easter and sometimes falls on Easter. On their first Easter we gave them a little basked with a few pieces of candy. Of course we added a peep or two! Well, both, not one, took one bite of the peep and threw it on the floor saying "YUCK". Then, as they tried the other candies, thier fingers and faces getting quite sticky, they soon had green plastic grass stuck to their faces, hands, and yes the PEEPS which they had sat on and was now stuck to the rear of thier pjs! when they tried to pull them off they were so dismayed that they were unable to let go of the grass and candy! My husband and I still laugh about that till we cry!
