The highest gas got here was 3.099. It is down to 2.859. We live in a small town so I told my husband I wanted a golf cart to use here in town. He laughed. I have also cut the trips to Borger back to once a month. The only risk with that is if I get stopped and they see a months worth of beer, Irish creme,etc.. Busted for bootlegging. We live in a dry county. 90 mile round trip and they take it all. sad.gif

At the end of this week, there is going to be a blockade of the M4 motorway which connects South Wales to London. There is also going to be a blockade at Pembroke refinery (South Wales), so people are of course panicking. I work in a petrol (gas) station which has the cheapest petrol in Britain due to the cost of living in my area. Earlier my manager called me flustered with the inundation of customers trying to fill their tanks. Because of the recent over dramatic crisis, I am working 14 hours tomorrow to help my manager out! And I don't have a day off until Sunday!

Last I was in work, unleaded petrol was at £0.92.9 a litre. Oh, and a lot of customers take out their anger on me! I have nothing to do with petrol honestly. I work part time to help fund my studies!!!!!!!

And they thought Raping and Pillaging was during olden times! I think we are all getting it at the pump!
Where are our oil reserves? Where is our oil from Alaska?
Has this country become so smug that we have forgotten the gas lines long ago?
What ever happened to gas wars?

Don't confuse crude oil supply with gasoline and other refined products. Refinery capacity in this country was at 100% before Katrina knocked 20% of the refinery capacity off line. Environmentalists and the NIMBY folks have had the result of no new refineries being built in the US for decades. Couple that with most existing refineries being located in hurricane prone areas and you have a recipee for gas shortages and prices going through the roof. Even without the loss of refinery capacity caused by Katrina, refinery capacity was being strained by a national love affair with gas guzzlers and multiple regulations calling for many different formulations of gasoline for different regions of the country. The EPA has called a temporary freeze on those regulations until refinery capacity is back up to normal, which should help some but don't expect gas prices to drop much. The decision to allow use of oil from the strategic reserve was more about politics than actual results because the crude oil shortage is a short term problem, until gulf production is back on line and LOOP is back in operation. The real problem is the refineries that were shut down by Katrina and that shortfall will continue until those refineries are back to full production. Until more refineries are built, don't expect gas prices to drop much and building a refinery takes a long time.

We are having here somewhere between $2.89 and $ 2.99 off base - on base (Ft. Bragg) we have $2.72.

That's pretty good. I get a full tank of gas for under $30.00
