Interesting you should ask.....been thinking lately about going to the grocery store and stocking up on:
>canned goods-tuna,soup,fruit,vegies,PB,etc.
>powdered milk
>water
>bags of navy beans & split peas (for soup), pinto beans for frijoles (refried beans), red beans (for rice & beans)
>freezer food (mostly meat)

I am seriously thinking about planting a garden in my yard next Spring...that is,
IF I have a house next Spring.

Living on a farm is sounding better all the time.

I read it and I really took my time reading it trying to absorb all of it and trying to see it's message. You are right. It does show that God not only loves us be God him self is Love. I hope the make a companion study book for it.

Yes, it is very much about God's love. And the dialogue between Papa, Holy Spirit & Jesus, as well as with Mack, is very fascinating & refreshing.

A companion study would be helpful because it does get a bit deep, doesn't it? I found myself reading parts over again to grasp it. The author wrote the story as a gift to his children, so something tells me that he would not write a study book. But....you never know.

I just started reading it. It has awsome reviews and has been #1 on the NY Times list for books. Has anyone else read it?

Nova Scotian, Have you finished it yet? What did you think of it?

I started reading it and could hardly put it down! I just LOVED it & it brought me to tears in several places. The thing that sticks out about this book-without giving too much away for those who have not read it yet-is that it so wonderfully personifies God's deep love for people!

I passed it onto my daughter & she also tore it up.

GREAT read that I would recommend to any believer or spiritual seeker!

Shalom,
Melissa

I found an old book at my Nova Scotia home this summer. Didn't get a chance to read it. It belonged to my great Grandmother. It was called "Fox's book of martyrs".

Thank you, Nova Scotia. I have not heard of that one, but I'll check it out.

I apologize but I must ask. Do you really believe this?

Camac, I don't believe everything I read, either, but these are documented cases. Also, DC Talk is made up of some very reputable Christian artists & I can't see them spoofing anyone.

Scary article, RP, but I am glad you posted it.

Christians all over the world-including the US-are already being martyred for their faith. The UN resolution would just make it "legal".

The book, "Jesus Freaks: Stories of Those Who Stood for Jesus, the Ultimate Jesus Freaks" by DC Talk and the voice of the martyrs is an eye opener.

Here is an excerpt from the book from Amazon.com:

Yes! I believe that we are in the end times. But noone knows when Jesus will return. We all need to be ready. And, I feel such a sense of urgency for my unsaved family & friends to pray them & love them into the Kingdom NOW!

Jesus words in the Gospel of Luke-chapter 17, verses 20-37-say it best:

Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, 'Here it is', or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you."

Then he said to his disciplies, "The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. Men will tell you, 'There he is!', or 'Here he is!' Do not go running off after them. For the Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

"Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

"It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

"It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. On that day no one who is on the roof of his house, with his goods inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything. Remember Lot's wife! Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left."

"Where, Lord?" they asked.

He replied, "Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather."

I went to the Coral Ridge website & watched the 2 hour funeral. Very powerful! Very powerful, indeed! I am amazed-though maybe I shouldn't be-how one man can have such a huge impact on spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those around him; the program that he started, Evangalism Explosion, touched approximately 6 million people and is still going today....in 55 countries! What a legacy Dr. Kennedy has left...he will be sorely missed!
Thank you, MacEoghainn, for sharing the website!

Hey Jime! Thanks for the little class! I checked out the website & it looks kinda cool. Is it anything like "Tribes"? My ex used to play that for hours at a time-it was an on-line capture the flag game. I am not very "game literate"-I used to play the Nintendo 1 Mario Brothers game....whoops,that is aging me,isn't it? wink.gif...and I was not very good at that. Anyways, I am always willing to try something new, especially if there are some friendly folks in there! I will get in there sometime soon-probably a weekend-and try my hand at it. And PM you (personal message?) if the spirit leads. Thanks again! Monksplay

Hello everyone! My name is Melissa & I have been bopping around this website for about 6 months-just love the people & music! I have been really touched by your stories. Thank you, all, for sharing! And here is a glimpse of my story....was born 8th out of 9 children in an Irish Catholic family.Went to Mass from the time I was a little tike, and really started enjoying church when I was in high school. We had a little youth group in my local parish at St Ann's-we would go from parish to parish and do a little youth service-complete with singing, skits & liturgical dance (singing & lit dancing were my favs). The nun that helped coordinate that group was named Rosalie-she was a breath of fresh air-and she was the FIRST person in the RC church to tell me that I could have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Well, she planted the seeds...then fast forward to my senior year...my boss at the fast food restaurant I worked at witnessed to me & showed me that he was serious about his faith. He & his wife lived a life of love & integrity-I wanted what they had! So, I said the sinners prayer one night at work when I was 17 years old. I left the RC while in college, then started going to a Reformed Church with my husband, and have been a member or attended several different churches-Reformed Church in America, Christian Reformed, Full gospel charismatic,Baptist, and currently am going to a little non-denom Bible church. My faith has changed over the years, but Jesus Christ NEVER changes-I find huge comfort in that. I experience God in many ways-when I am outdoors, when I am singing, when I am in need & a friend *just happens* to call, or I receive a mystery check in the mail just in the knick of time. God has also blessed me with 4 beautiful children-2 sons & 2 daughters-30,25,22 & 18-and 4 darling grandchildren-2 boys & 2 girls-5 months,10 months,2 years & 3 years old. Life with the Lord just keeps getting sweeter! I pray that I will be a channel of God's love, grace & mercy to others.
Shalom,
Melissa

I agree with you, Merle, in that most sexual abuse is incestual-mostly male relatives molesting/raping young girls in their family. I had a friend, though, whose mother abused her as a young child and my friend lived with those scars all of her life. Isn't it also true that sexual abuse victims become perpetrators when they don't deal with the shame & victimization issues associated with their sexual abuse? If it is not stopped it can become multi-generational. And, please explain how corporal punishment is associated with sexual abuse. I have never heard of that correlation.
What can we do to protect our children (grandchildren) that a registry can't do? Let's talk to them about good touch & bad touch, and to tell a trusted adult when someone has made them feel uncomfortable, touched them, threatened them or asked them to keep a secret. YES, we should keep telling them not to talk to strangers too, because there are pedaphiles that lurk around the parks & schoolyards, and live in our neighborhoods (who will abuse again).
And in this modern age of computers, we now have internet predators-they come in all ages, shapes & sizes. They victimize children. They can also victimize well-intentioned adults. But, that is a whole new can of worms, isn't it?

Elspeth,
I am keeping tabs, too. I work in the auto insurance industry as a PIP adjustor ("PIP" stands for personal injury protection) and investigate auto accident claims and approve payments for medical bills. Once in awhile we handle "motorcycle with auto" accidents-the motorcyclists usually have very serious injuries.
I am sending prayers up on John's behalf for full healing, as well as prayers for the family. It can be a long, slow trek to healing, but his progress is very encouraging.
Shalom,

You don't know me as I am a new kid on the block. I read your posting & was touched.....what a precious time you and your family had with your Mom as you said goodbye. Knowing that heaven awaits her on the other side is such a BIG hope, isn't it?
I know what it feels like to lose a parent-my Dad died many years ago when I was 18 & I will never forget the pain. But, he has stayed with me over the years, and I have had some wonderful visits with him in my dreams. Great conversations about love & life.
I will be sending some prayers up for God's comfort!
God Bless,

I watched snippets from Passion in church service tonight, and, of course, it produced some strong emotions & tears-just as it did when I first saw the movie. Especially the scourging scene-very graphic-yet, that is what I need to bring it home. Jesus went through this extreme suffering & agony for all of our sins-even mine.
Happy Easter to you & your families!

I am a Christian and base my belief on Jesus Christ as revealed in the scriptures....I currently attend a non-denominational Charismatic church in my town, but have attended many different churches over the years-Roman Catholic, Reformed, Christian Reformed, Baptist, etc. I agree that it is more important to live your faith than just talk about it-"the proof is in the pudding". Or, as Jesus put it, "you will know a person by their fruit".
I am curious, though, about Messianic Judaism. Is it like the "Jews for Jesus" group that travels to different churches & does the presentation called, "Christ in the Passover"? Very fascinating.
