I voted for "yes".

Tookie Williams and his people had 24 years to find someone who could refute the eyewitnesses who placed him at the scene and the ballistics experts who said the shells came from his shotgun.

QUOTE (Emmet @ 15-Dec-2005, 11:07 PM)
3) Williams is "reformed"; particularly, a born-again Christian.

Argument #3 was addressed by posts by several people, including one by SCShamrock, supported by Biblical citations, none of whom were ridiculed or insulted as a result.

Not by even the most liberal summation of my post can you draw the conclusion that I either thought Tookie was reformed, or that he is a Christian. Read carefully. I merely expressed my views concerning his soul should he indeed be reborn through Christ, and that alone. As for him being executed, let me reiterate, justice was served.

The peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is, that it is robbing the human race; posterity as well as the existing generation; those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those who hold it. If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error for truth: if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its collision with error. ~John Stuart Mill, On Liberty, 1859

How my words could be parsed in such a manner is beyond my comprehension, unless, as I strongly suspect, you're simply being a troll; being intentionally contentious, disruptive, and tangential, derailing discussions by focusing attacks on people, not ideas, intentionally fomenting dissention, disharmony, and chaos in an on-line community.
As I said, if you have anything substantive to contribute to a conversation; an alternative thesis, a different point of view, a new insight, or perhaps a logical or rhetorical challenge, please by all means do so. If your only objective is to pick a fight, stuff a sock in it.

Gentlemen, gentlemen,

This thread is beginning to head in directions that it should not be heading. Please stop with the name calling. Both sides are losing and convincing no one.
