Looks like a wealth of information for geneological research is now available from ScotlandsPeople. Here is a copy of their newsletter:

Dear Customer

We are delighted to announce the following new features now available
online at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk.

**OPR Images Now Online:

Images of Old Parish Register (OPR) records are now publicly available
online for the very first time. These comprise the records of births &
baptisms and banns & marriages kept by individual parishes of the
Established Church of Scotland, before the introduction of civil
registration in 1855. The earliest records available date from 1553.

In addition, a major OPR index update has been deployed with over nine
million entries updated and linked to the associated images.

**OPR County Search:

Customers can now search the Old Parish Register records by county as well
as parish, offering greater search flexibility.

**Time Limit Extended:

The session time limit has now been extended from seven days to ninety
days. Further details can be found at
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/content/.../index.aspx?150.

**Search Filters:

The addition of search filters offers customers the ability to search
through and filter their Previous Searches, Viewed Images and Timeline.

**Mother's Maiden Surname:

A Mother's Maiden Surname field has been added to the statutory deaths
search form. This should, however, be used with caution. See
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/content/...index.aspx?1301 for further
information.

**Reference data added to images:

A reference has now been added to each image for ease of recognition.

**Vouchers:

ScotlandsPeople is pleased to announce a new method of paying for credits.
You can now order vouchers by post, and pay by cheque or by credit card.
Further details at
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/content/...aspx?r=551&1277

**New years data released:

Following the release of almost 100,000 new statutory index entries
comprising the new year data for the statutory births, marriages and
deaths, customers can now access records from the Statutory Register of
Births for 1906, the Statutory Register of Marriages for 1931, and the
Statutory Register of Deaths for 1956. Images for the new years are also
available for download.

**Future Items:

Look out for the launch of RCEs in the near future.

Thank you for your interest in ScotlandsPeople.

Regards

ScotlandsPeople
