My lovely workplace has deemed I-Radio a needless thing and has locked us from all sites [no matter I pay for my service through live365.com]. So I can't listen anymore  :( It's was fun..while it lasted.

:-0 Well! If you're going for the SCA appoved look, you would have a leinen on under the wool items, except for the socks. We now have the choice of yarns and your outfit could be a soft as silk, as cool as cotten, or itchy as raw wool.

SCA? Oh no no no..that is a dirty term around me. I am going for something entirely me :-0 . After all, it will have to go with the tatts [one of which is my Clan Badge] and the piercings here and there :p . *lol* Like I said, not your typical female *ROFLMCLAO!*

:p Well Texans' can be a bit of a trial, for normal people, but you got to believe they will grow up some day. *he he* I have some Texas cousins; they are a strange lot.  You may be right, exposing them to good music could change them. It is a rough job, but some buddy has got to do it.

*lol* I found that out, having been raised in N Ca., this was quite a culture shock when I moved here. I had no idea...learned alot of hard lessons the first year, but everything is a good thing if you learn from it, right? :D

:p The whole 9 yards?  That's a great kilt. For down right, old style, good looks, team your kilt up with a tweed, high neck, fisherman, cable sweater. Add cable knee highs and a matching tam.

Oh no...itchty that. *lol*

My heart go'es out for you skootz having to live in TEXAS, and in an apartment.  There is one good thing, you can go to Scarbrough Fair.  To have anything on loud enough to bother the neighbors, would stampead the horses (our three and neighbors four) and those guys are about bomb proff, with the trains going by several times a day.

Scarbrough bites. I was asked to leave for my warrior garb, have not been back since [ok they can show their ta-ta's but my butt, in tights, is a no no..]

But Texas is ok. Being a Wiccan in the buckle of the bible belt is less than comfy at times [SINNER! REPENT!] but all in all, it's not bad :)

I have a catalogue for cds that are only delivered to shops but they promised that if I can't find a cd I can ask them again and they'll send it. I'll ask them. If I find it anywhere here I can send it to you.

Oh that would be AWESOME! Let me know if you can find it and let me know how much it is.

GO FOR IT.

Im buyin one as soon as I can save up some money again...

No women are more than welcome to wear kilts...Some die hard traditionalists still believe that a lady should wear only a ladies kilt.

Thats one option.  A ladies kilt tends to be more feminine, more flattering...they also, generally, are slightly longer and offten have less material...i.e. less pleats.  also they buckle on the oposite side...apart from these diferences they are very similar to the traditional kilt.  This said, it must not be true that women can't wear kilts, because there are kilts made specifically for us...

However, I am planning to buy the mens kilt myself...probably because someone told me i had to get a ladies kilt.  Actually i plan to buy a couple...one will prolly be a ladies kilt, but for my main kilt, my piping kilt i want it to be traditional, I want the heavy material, I want all the pleats...I WANT WHAT I WANT...

So you need to decide what you want..and when you decide GO FOR IT...dont let a smelly man tell you what you can and cant wear.   MAKE HIM WEAR THE KILT THEN

GOOD LUCK

CP (d)

See that's how I look at it too :). Figure, heck if I am going to spend the money to get the Tartan, then I might as well get the whole 9 yards [pun intended]. I've never been one to hold to what is expected [wear Rockies and boots but HATE country music *lol*.], so there it is. Besides I look great in a tux jacket, so I think I'll just get the whole Charlie outfit.

Thanks for the input ya'll! You have helped me TONS!

Hmmmm I would hope nothing  :-0

But question..to settle a bet of sorts between my BF and I:

I want to get a kilt-since I have a Clan, why not. Stenn says 'No women can't wear kilts' well..why not? I've never been referred to as a 'typical female' so my question is..why the heck not? Opinions?

Okay, our Clan Cousins post got a little off topic, so I am beginning the thread again so that others will feel welcome to play this game. If you wish to see what happened to Scots Highlanders who wound up in America, Scottish2 has a very good graphic made up of my Uncle Joe in the first thread.

I wanted to continue a discussion regarding something one of my professors said long ago - Everyone in the whole world is 6th cousin to everyone else.  When I discussed genealogy issues with one of my friends, I mentioned that part of my family were Stewarts from Scotland. Well, my friend was born in Florida, and is of Cuban and Spainish background. As it turns out one of her grandfathers from Spain, had married a woman named Stewart ftom Scotland! So I guess that makes us 6th cousins!  I have had many such conversations along the way in my life, and we can often find familial connections many generations removed.

Remember, your ranking as a Clan Member increases everytime you write a post!  I started out as a "Peasant" at the beginning of this week, but due to my frequent posting, I have now risen to the ranks of "Braveheart Member."  There is no secret to rising through the ranks, only that you absolutely must write posts, no matter how long or how short, in order to increase your Clan Ranking.

Slainte,

Janet

Ok I am of the Clan Colquhoun.....septs are as follows:

Ardincaple/Cahoon/Cahoun/Cahn/Caleacahan/Calgahan/Calhoon/Calhoun/Callahan/Cameron/Caun/Cessoc/Cohan/Cork/Cothun/Cowan/Cowen/Culchom/Culhane/Dalglish/Douglas/Gahn/Golmer/Gilmore/Gilmakessoc/Grant/Imgram/Kahn/Kessan/Kessog/Kilpatrick/Kirkpatrick/King/Lang/Law/Leckie/Lennox/Logan/Luss/MacA'Chambaich/MacAulay/Maxauslan/MacClintock/MacCowan/MacFarlane/MacKessog/MacKinley/MacLinden/MacManus/McOwen/MacWalter/O'Cahan/O'Corkle/Potter/Gulchone/Smith/Smollett/Walker

Scary thing is, my ex husband, a Smith, was a distant cousin. His Great Gran was a MacCowan

I had the notion to go to Scotland for spring break - the airline fares were going for $348 roundtrip on Orbitz! I had it all worked out to go for a week's vacation - but my husband told me that if I went without him not to come back!  (cry)

He cant understand why I want to go to Scotland, and I can't understand why he will not allow me to go !?! He thinks I have completely lost my mind!!! Is there any such thing as a "Scottish Standoff?" If there is, we are there now! :D

Oh now that isn't right. He may fall in love with the glens and the mountians, Scotland is BEAUTIFUL in the summer. And some of the most awesome golf courses in the world..besides how many golfers can honestly claim they have played St Andrews? ;) My mothers clan has a family course right by Loch Lommond...never got into the game, but the course is stunning.....

oh... there are plenty things to do! the dingle peninsula is one of the most beautiful spots on earth! Just take a day to wander around. And perhaps get to Connaught for a weekend, it's quite a way but it's worth it.

I've heard that, want to visit and perhaps find a pub for sale and stay [yes I am serious, I want to go home]. Always spent my summers in Cork with my birth family, want to see the rest of the Island. Thanks for the tip, we have a month so we have lots of time to to out and about! :)

I only have the "Scots Women" CD and I bought it in Edinburgh. But look up in Amazon, I had some good results there.

I'm searching the Corries Compilations 1-4 on CD...

Did that..always first place I look...alas, no luck. Even tried 'Scottishmusic.com'..no luck there either, same for Green Linnet. Guess I'll have to email a pal in Cork and see if he can get it, or if he has it and can burn it. [sigh]. Guess my Clann an Drumma CD will have to do for the truck :), As for the Corries, try Columbia House...you never know :)

I hate rap basses (especially then when my brother turned the volume to it's max =/ ) But I can't annoy him with pipes cos he's practicin...

There's just one way... turning on Nightwish (my favourite Metal Band).
And my Neighbours are used to scottish Folk, we have a Scottish Family living in our neighbourhood...

Hmmm Nightwish is good...or Rush's 'By-Tor and the Snow Dog' over and over  :-0 . I've found living in an apartment can be full of all kinds of fun here in Texas *lol*. My neighbors do not know what to make of the next door tattoo'd, pierced Irish lass ;) , quite how I like it.

:D You still got a life. Having no life is when you catch yourself watching Seseme Street, after all your kids have started to school.
Don't feel to bad. How could we harrass you if we didn't know who Sponge Bob was, and that means we are exposed to the cartoon someway. Personly Betty Boop and Popeye, now that was cartoons!

Popeye...I dunno. He just looked weird. Now Bugs and Wile E Coyote...that was cartoons! But I have to admit my all time fav of all is the WB one with the dog and the kitten that he found and was hiding. [sigh]

But um as to the life, no I think it's true, that I haven't one. I'm single, have no kids [but the kitten] and well, i watch the new PPG on friday nights *lol*. Now that you know my deepest secret...yes, I left the door open, feel free to step through heh.
