A couple of years ago I was in Pont L'Abbe on a painting trip with a group of artists, and I'll always remember seeing Celtic designs on the ancient doorway at a church there in the little town... I later found out that there really was a wider-spread Celtic influence even into France than I had ever known about. Have you ever listened to the Corrs? They are Irish and have a wonderful mix of pop and traditional Irish sounds. Check them out, you might like them!
