Wow jamie83, that really is quite a zoo!
The guy across the street from my uncle's farm had llamas and alpacas. I liked the alpacas, wouldn't mind raising some of them, but holy cats! They're not cheap! |

Oh man, Dundee, that sucks!
We animal lovers get as close to our pets as we do to people. Losing a pet can be devastating.
PICTURES! Take lots of pictures when you have the chance. I wish I had taken more. But I've learned, so now my dog doesn't even flinch when I use the flash... |

I love Celtic music; however, (ironically) country music is just not something I can tolerate. My ears pick up a difference.
My taste varies widely as well. I have a great many non-English songs. I seem to have collected mostly Spanish and Italian, but I also have a lot of Greek, French, and even Gaelic.
The musicality of a language is what draws me. Not understanding what is being said is also a draw - I can focus on the sound, rather than the message of the words.
My iPod is crammed with instrumental music too. New Age, Classical, soundtracks, easy listening, all that sort of stuff. |

I also understand about feeling torn between countries. Although, I am more of a Sybil - the woman with several distinct personalities.
Between my mother and father, I get no less than eight nationalities! French, Canadian, Italian, Norwegian, Native American, Czechoslovakian, Scottish, and Irish.
I am more Scottish than anything else, however. I also identify with my Scottish heritage more than any other.
This year I became a Scottish Laird, so I proudly use my legal title. |

Growing up, I had a menagerie, including butterflies, turtles, hamsters, gerbils, fish, dogs, mice, ducks, - and Sea Monkeys!
Today, I have a miniature Schnauzer. Minnie is a nine pound, all white version. |

QUOTE (heartsong @ 09-May-2012, 01:26 PM) | Is the movie Songcatcher based on the book with the same name by Sharyn McCrumb? She's one of my favorite author's and her books are based in Appalachia and the people that settled there. |
I think the movie is based on works by Olive Dame CAmpbell.
She collected songs and started a school of some kind in North Carolina. |

Songcatcher - yes, a good movie!
The history of folk and country music is far more detailed and nuanced than most people would assume.
From Ireland and Scotland, influenced by African slaves and customized by immigrants, songs morphed as they migrated west. |

Wouldn't it be cool if we could still have great names like these?
Steve, John, Rick, Kim, Sue ...they just don't have the same kind of music in them as an elvish or hobbit names. |

Hi Rosiedosie. Welcome!
I hear what you're saying about learning Gaelic. I tried learning Scottish Gaelic - found out I'd make a great deaf-mute....
The accents are fun too, aren't they? I enjoy an Irish accent, but I had Scottish accents in my family, so I have to favor that accent just a wee bit o'r t'othr.
Again, welcome and happy listening! |

Ok then! It's good to have a plan B.
Playing a variety of musical instruments is a sign of a creative mind and evidence that you are not afraid of feeling emotions - I like that! |

Welcome and enjoy. I'm a relative newbie myself and still sifting through all the subjects and notes around here. There's so much to read!

I've lived in Minnesota for over 50 years and have never seen such a wimpy winter before! But I'll take it - I hate winter anyway! In another 50 years, I suppose we'll be having a green Christmas in shorts at the beach! |
