Oddly enough, this sounds like the experience I had when I took care of 3 of my friends cats for a week. 2 needed meds each day. I used to dread visiting the house each night to hunt them down.

My dog, however, doesnt even need the bacon. He'll eat whatever is put in front of his nose.

I think that he also spills my Guinness on purpose so that he can drink it while I'm going for paper towels.

Oddly enough, I'm having a non-Celtic moment right now. I'm listening to "Nice" from the CD The Calling by the Aquarium Rescue Unit.

I love the music at these things but I especially like working as a vendor. Good people, great fun. Besides, when your working as a kilt vendor, you can go pants free for days at a time!

Easily one of the most entertaining Celtic bands on the Philly scene. Great people, excellent musicians, good times! And they wrote the USAKilts anthem for us!!!

The bagpipes and the octopus made me think of a conversation a few musician friends of mine were having last month.

Bogside Bob, and accordion player of immense talent, was taking a break between sets one night, and we began talking about the many other instruments that he plays. He later mentioned that he wanted to learn bagpipes next.

Tim, the guitar player, overheard this and walked over. He asked Bob, "Do you know what bagpipes are good for?"

"No", Bob replied.

"Kindling for starting accordion fires!"

True, and funny.

Check out my friends from the Bogside Rogues here!

It's TOO hot to fire up the oven here in Philly. Any Irish/Scottish grilling recipies out there that don't involve entrails of livestock?

Another benefit that I'm trying to prove is this: You know how folks say that fish will grow in proportion to their environment? Fish in small aquariums stay small. Larger aqauriums grow larger. Well...

Strangely enough, my kids have decided to give a portion of their allowance to St. Jude's each year. A TV appeal really struck them when they saw kids who couldn't play baseball, or go hiking. Naturally, the wife and I help to bolster their contribution.

Keep up the great work!

I hit Christian because that's the one that best applies, but I've been exposed to many flavors of Christianity....

Dad: Catholic
Mom: Presby
Baptised: Orthodox Presby
Confirmed: Methodist
Married: Lutheran (Her grandad was a pastor)
Kids Baptised: Methodist
Currently: Presby

If nothing else, I should be able to play a mean game of softball!

Another favorite...

Bonnie Ship the Diamond

Words and Music by: Traditional

THE DIAMOND IS A SHIP ME LADS
THE DAVIS STRAIT SHE'S BOUND
AND THE QUAY IT'S ALL A'GARNISHED
WITH LASSIES ALL AROUND
CAPTAIN THOMPSON GIVES THE ORDER
SAIL THE OCEAN WIDE
WHERE THE SUN IT NEVER SETS ME LADS
NO DARKNESS DIMS THE SKY

chorus:

SO IT'S CHEER UP ME LADS
LET YOUR HEARTS NEVER FAIL
WHILE THE BONNIE SHIP THE DIAMOND
GOES A'FISHIN FOR THE WHALE

ALONG THE QUAY AT PETERSBURG
THE LASSIES STAND AROON
WITH SHAWLS ALL PULLED AROUND THEM
AND SALT TEARS RUNNIN' DOON
DON'T YOU FEAR ME BONNIE LASS
THOUGH YOU BE LEFT BEHIND
FOR THE ROSE WILL BLOOM ON GREENLANDS ICE
BEFORE WE CHANGE OUR MINDS

chorus:

HERE'S A HEALTH TO THE RESOLUTION
AND TO THE LIZZA SWAIN
HERE'S A HEALTH TO THE BATTLER OF MONTROSE
THE DIAMOND SHIP OF FAME
WE WEAR THE TROUSERS O' THE WHITE
AND JACKETS O' THE BLUE
WHEN WE RETURN TO PETERSBURG
WE'LL HA'E SWEETHEARTS ANEW

chorus:

IT'LL BE BRIGHT BOTH DAY AND NIGHT
WHEN THE GREENLAND LADS COME HAME
WI' A SHIP THAT'S FULL OF OIL
AND MONEY TO OUR NAMES
WE'LL MAKE THE CRADLES FOR TO ROCK
AND BLANKETS FOR TO TEAR
AND EVERY LASS IN PETERSBURG
SING HUSH-A-BYE MY DEAR

chorus:

Wicked Tinkers do a great rendition of this on their HAMMERED! CD.

Nova Scotia Farewell

The sun was setting in the west
The birds were singing on ev'ry tree
All nature seemed inclined to rest
But still there was no rest for me

Chorus:
Farewell to Nova Scotia, the sea-bound coast
Let your mountains dark and dreary be
And when I am far away on the briny oceans tossed
Will you ever heave a sigh and a wish for me?

I grieve to leave my native land
I grieve to leave my comrades all
And my aged parents whom I always held so dear
And the bonnie, bonnie lass that I do adore

The drums they do beat and the wars do alarm
The captain calls, we must obey
So farewell, farewell to Nova Scotia's charms
For it's early in the morning I am far, far away

I have three brothers and they are at rest
Their arms are folded on their breast
But a poor simple sailor just like me
Must be tossed and driven on the dark blue sea
