Anyone interested in 18thc history and culture? For the past month there has been a wonderful miniseries playing on HBO called, "John Adams." Shows many historical accuracies and then of course Hollywood has to add "creative differences" (inaccuracies), but for the most part I find the film pretty accurate and for those of you who would like to discuss, ask questions.....go for it. There are a few re-enactors on this board who would be happy to help you in any way we possibly can should you have any questions. I know for myself, if I don't know, I will do my best to find out and reply to any inquiries.

In the meantime I am finding actors, Paul Giamotti and Laura Linney to be suberb as well as many others.

I must admit that the music in this miniseries reminds me very much of the soundtrack from movie, "Last of the Mohicans." Anyone else hearing any similarity?

Hope to chat about this most wonderful and very important historical movie.......at least in my eyes as an 18thc re-enactor and historicial enthusiast!

Sorry Rose...

I don't get HBO. Wish I could be viewing it though.

I've only seen a couple of episodes. HBO is supposed to run them all this Sunday. Going to record them in case I can't sit down and watch them. It looked like a great show.

If you wish, now you can buy the HBO series. I was able to buy it on Amazon.com for $39.00.

I watched it...and I really liked it. Of course movie producers have to make things more "interesting" to keep the general public's interest, but it was fairly unobtrusive, if you look at the grand scheme of things. I think it's going to be one of those DVD sets that I pick up (or put on my clues for the clueless Christmas list, whichever comes first).

It won 13 awards, including best lead actor and best lead actress!!!!!!!!!!!! Was nominated for 23. That is the most for any HBO movie. There were some dress inaccuracies and I know of a couple fellow 18th c re-enactors who were in this film who shared how they had historically correct shoes to wear, but the clothing design deparment had them wear something else....go figure. All in all, I thought Tom Hanks did a great job in producing this film.

DesertRose;

I purchased it and I think it is very well done and deserved the awards it garnered.

I actually saw this movie in history class. It was one of the few good school movies. I thought it was fantastic. My teacher had this on DVD and through a few days, we watched the whole thing. I thought it would be one of those typical horrible educational school movies, but I was very impressed. For an educational movie, the acting was superb. If I had an HBO account, I would gladly watch this again.
