You are right, I think I'll stay inside the jail! Just bring me a snuggy blanket, diet coke, Makers Mark and no phone and a good book...

Very good Idea, throw away the key!!!

Thanks Richard, I was having a blonde moment thinking I wanted out...

In my family tree I find Scots, English, Welsh, Germans, and Swiss. From England there were Quakers, Puritans, and even Puritans who were the sons of Cavaliers (go figure), Some fought in our revolutionary war, some protested the war, and some were loyalists. At least one ancestor came over on the Mayflower, possible another. My grandmother even stated that we might even have some Ojibwa bloodlines(I can neither prove or disprove this) What does this make me, just a plain old "Heinz 57 Varieties" American. I try not to make any detrimental remarks about any ethnicity as I may find out that I am one of them. beer_mug.gif

Somebody mentioned the Mormon web site FamilySearch.com. The LDS have the largest single collection of genealogy materials in the world at their Family History Library in Salt Lake City. It is open to the public, free. It is chock full of out of print books, church and government records from around the world. There are always plenty of volunteers around to help you find things. I would recommend it to any serious genealogist. My wife and I try to go for a week every two or three years. thumbs_up.gif

Yeah really. I run into a dead end with my grandfathers side just after him because of the commonality of his name. vampire.gif

Raven Whitefang,

Can you get your Grandfather's Birth Record? It should list who his Parents are and where they are from.

Help me Annabelle!!!!!!!
I want to make a family tree for my kids, but I have no idea where to start. I also want them to know where they're family comes from.

This is all I have so far. I've gotta get my mom's info.

Great grandfather: Willam Andrew Lowrey
Born in Florida
Dead

Grandfather: Fred Lowrey
Dob Nov 2 1914
Born in Illinoise
Died in 1997

Grandmother: Vernice Lorene Henry
DOB Apr 20 1922
Born in Arkansas
Still alive

Father: Chris Cagel Lowrey
DOB Dec 29 1942
Born in Creghead County Arkansas
Still alive

All the names I gave are the full and corrct spelling. My dad's birth name is just Chris, grandpa's is just Fred and he has no middle name.

Thank you for what ever help you can give me!
P.S. My Greatgrandfather used to tell my grandfather that our family is from Ireland. Not sure if thats the truth.

Do you have your g-grandfather's Birth or Death Record?

They usually give the names of the Parents and where they were born. I you can also find the Marriage Record and Church Records, they could help you a lot also.

Have you checked Census Records? This is another fairly good source for information.

These are just a few things that can get you started.

I will be more than glad to help anyway I can.

Grandpa's fathers name is the same as his, hes a Jr. John Felix Huffman (jr). grandpa was born in Richmond Virginia. I know that my great grandma's first name was Grace, thats about all I know. Grandpa is still alive, I know his sisters names. Now Grandma's side her name is Garrenton, she was born in Portsmouth Virginia. I've already linked her brothers to her, but as far as going up on her tree, all I know is that gr grandma's name was Luna Elizabeth. dont know her maiden name. About all ive found about the name Huffman is that it is German for one who works a hide or hind of land ( hind equaling 150 acres). Cant get anywhere on the name Garrenton. I mainly want to get down to the roots to find out the family crests, coat of arms information. I want to be able to at least start at my grandparents with both crests? coats? so that my kids will know where they came from.
