Seeing-Eye Dog Relieves Himself on Court, Delays Second Half of Pistons-Magic Game The Associated Press
ORLANDO, Fla. Jan 18, 2005 ? Who didn't let the dog out? A stink was raised during halftime of the Detroit Pistons-Orlando Magic NBA game on Tuesday night when the start of the second half was delayed by three minutes after a seeing-eye dog relieved itself on the court.
The dog was with a charity organization, Canine Companions for Independence, that was receiving a $10,000 donation from the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation.
When the Pistons came out for warmups, Rasheed Wallace walked up to the lane where the excrement had fallen, stopped and stared in disbelief. His teammates were just as confused before wide smiles broke out.
A custodian was enlisted to scoop up the mess and wipe up the remains with cleaner, a mop and towels.
Methinks the dog is *not* an Orlando Magic fan ...

I was at the National Federation of the Blind conference in Atlanta last year when a dog let loose in the exhibit hall. The dog's owner was soooooo embarrassed she was nearly in tears. The problem was the dog was prettty stressed out because of the crowd and the long travel over the previous day.
Most guide dog owners are very good about parking their dog (that's guide dog talk for letting the dog relieve itself outside), so my guess is the stress of the crowd was the dog's problem.
BTW, here's a bit of guide dog trivia for you. The next time someone tells you that "Seeing Eye" or "Leader" dog is inappropriate (non-PC), tell them these are the names of guide dog schools in the country. Seeing Eye is in New Jersey, Leader Dogs is in Michigan. There are also Pilot Dogs and even Canine Companions. None of them are "correct," and it's not offensive or unPC to refer to a dog as a Seeing Eye dog. Who knows? Chances are, it really IS a Seeing Eye alumnus.
