Decline In Prices?, Gasoline is down, how about oter prices?

Gasoline has been slowly coming down. I have noticed prices are dropping at the grocery also. Some prices at the drug store are coming down especially one of my supplements. I am curious about what is happening across the nation. Had this happened earlier it would have cushioned the economic blow a bit.

I noticed an ad today that Lincoln will finance a gas guzzler for 6 years with free interest. How useless is that?

Over half of the cars on the lots here, both new and used, are SUV's. I just replaced my auto in Dec. and Everyone is sending mailings offering deals on a replacement for this one. I suspect very little is selling now. GM was offering all buyers the GM employee discount.

We are having "sales" everywhere and on everything. Sidewalk sales, clearance sales and inventory reduction sales. Christmas items have been out for about a month along with Halloween and Thanksgiving merchandise.

There are ongoing lawn and garage sales and nearly everything imaginable for sale along the streets and highways.

Gas prices here in Tucson have been decreasing rapidly. I just filled up this morning for $3.11 a gallon. The local news is predicting that gas prices will fall below $3.00 be the end of the month. This will help with some of the financial crush.

I just got home from my daughters house and along the interstate 40 miles from home I paid $2.69 a gallon!!

An interesting side note, my mpg dropped 5 mi. I wonder if the octane is right.

Wow $2.69 that is great! Did you purchase 86grade octane? Or did you speed on the way home since you found a great price on gas?

Well -- at least it's an investment the average consumer is not too scared to make at the present time.

I bought Reg, reset the computer, set the cruise at 65 mp and drove all on 4 lane. On the trip to my daughter's house I got 30.8 and I drove 70 mph. At 65 mph I would "normally" gotten between 33.5 and 34 mpg. It was dark so I didn't check the weather, wind direction and or speed. I have to make another trip in a week and a half and I am going to step up the octane on my next fill up to see what happens. I trust neither the oil industry or Govt. If they drop the octane, the lower price isn't realistic.

I talked to someone who has knowledge of a grocery chain and it seems that people are not buying as much as they have in the past several months. I don't know if it because the lack of jobs or people are being cautious.

I see the Christmas items coming out and I wonder how people are going to treat this season. Are the same people that went over their heads with morgages that they couldn't afford going to "charge" this Christmas?

I have noticed less people in all stores. The local groceries have started a senior discount day that brings out crowds. Sales are bigger and people are buying less. People now walk past my house with one or two small grocery bags, or ride bicycles.

The Christmas orders have been committed since the end of July. They are talking of kicking off the season with 50 to 70% discounts.

We now (mostly just this week) have over a Trillion and a half in faux money in circulation and bush just proposed 250 Billion more. Bush announced it with a smile as "economic draino." I do NOT consider it a joke!!

Hey valpal59, I want to be second in line right behind you.

It must be fun for them (Prez...Politicians...CEOs) to know that they can have an endless stream of money coming in from the American people to play with on Wall St. It must be comforting to them to see how obedient we are by not starting a rebelllion. It must be wonderful to live in comfort without fear of losing their house, their job...or having to get a good job evaluation for their raises, or to simply keep their jobs. It must be nice to be able to joke at the peasants misfortune.

I hope they remember the Bastille...there is a resistance point at which the few citizens who are active, become the many active citizens...and they will begin to push back.

I grew up around the butcher business and one of the most striking things I saw involved slaughtering sheep. Seep have a "herd mentality". They always move in groups following a percieved leader. Large herds can not be driven anywhere. slaughter houses kept a few goats on hand to quickly solve that problem. The goat would run down the chute to "food" and the sheep would follow the goat to the kill floor. The goat lived, the sheep didn't. The goats came to be called "Judas Goats."

I have watched that mentality develop in America. I raised my children to believe, as I do, that our way of life is a right that we are born with. For perceived "gifts" and benefits, the American sheep will give it all up.

I hope you are right in that people have a limit. I expected to see a lot of buyers at the last gun show and was disappointed. People either have no worries or do not care.

I live in a middle class neighborhood and I have neighbors who have lost their jobs, have no heat and no prospect of gaining either. Our food pantries are becoming desperate. I am not at risk (yet) but by my nature, I lay awake worrying about those who are and I can not help them. One of our factories started moving production equipment to Mexico last Thursday.

The Enron perps were going to prison and those today are being rewarded. Most of the great Govt experiments, as was ours, have been limited to 200 years. Maybe it is our time. If so, I want to be one of the first to go.

I suspect things will have to get real bad for more people than not before anyone rises to do something about it. We Americans have lost our feistiness and will continue to be treated marginally if that's how we expect to be treated by our leaders. We taken on the victim role.
