Sorry for the down time today. Had a few issues today with the stream but it is all straightened out now. With the fund raising success we were able to reopen our 50 count listener stream and I always seem to goof up the configuration process. But it is all set now! Enjoy!

I discovered tonight an issue with our router. A router is what directs network traffic to the different machines setup on the Highlander Radio Network. Web page requests go to one machine, email to another machine, requests to another, etc. It is vital to the proper functioning of a website.

I have updated the firmware of the router and it already seems to be functioning alot faster. This could be the reason for some of the little glitches we have run across.

If anyone notices our site is down briefly or the stream stops suddenly, please drop a note here so I can figure out if we need to replace the router. Thanks!

Just popped in passin and this little thread caught my eye,as a webcaster myself I too have experienced the "cannot connect at this time"
My one fear is that some servers are hogging bandwidth for big listener stations by that I mean 100 plus listeners, and the small webcaster who is often listed free has to take his chances.
Its just a thought and as you have to pay the pennies on live 365 to be listed you do not find that problem. ph34r.gif

Hey fellow webcaster! What station do you run?

We are not listed on live365 any longer. Our choice was between live365 and shoutcast. I think that shoutcast is better for the listeners as there are no pop-up ads and audio advertising.

I agree with you about the quality and the big stations takin up all the bandwidth.

Oh by the way as I am here live 365 have just deducted $134 from my account for a service I never even had.I opted to try the "free trial offer" and was a little dillusioned with it .
Of course before they consider the free trial one had to furnish them with credit card details to prove bona fide which I did, after a couple of days i cancelled and they acknowledged; then a few days later billed me.
I am sure its a genuine mistake ,but rather a lax one. I have of course asked them to reimburse me forthwith...let you know the outcome.

Liam Mac Flannacadha,

Yeah, there was something I just did not like about live365. By all means I should have stayed with them. Combining both streams Highlander Radio was like #2 or #3 Celtic station. But it was really a combination of cost, what is best for the listener and being able to control, manipulate and program the stream. So we went with shoutcast.

I can recommend a few excellent companies that can stream for as low as $14-$25 per month. Let me know. Do you have a website?

BTW, are you from Ireland? Your name looks Celtic in orgin!

Yes I am from Ireland born n bred from the county of Cork smile.gif
Well with a name like Clancy tongue.gif
The irish translation means "Son of the mighty warrior"
We go back a bit especially to the times of "the troubles"1916 era.
Not appropriate to comment on certain details within this forum, whats gone is gone, forgiven but not forgotten.

Strayed a bit there,I agree with you entirely 365 had full control over content and stream .Initially I thought 1Gig wow thats some space, but on closer inspection the reality dawned.

To get about 100Mb looped you would need to fill the full Gig due soley to the amout of song skipping presumably to comply with TOS,but pay for the full Gig of space.I watched my playlist for a few hrs one evening and the the tunes did not rotate the way I had them setup,I thought random play was on,it was not; concluding that random facility on 365 is somewhat redundant as all tunes are randomised, presumably to comply with TOS.

Now if any webcaster can produce a playlist that complys with TOS my hat is off to him/her.

I have seen this type of operation before on a now defunked server .You had 1 Gig of transfer to upload mixes, the compliance was that you did not mix more than 2 tunes from the same album, TOS regs I believe.

So after painlessly setting up 15 tunes from different sources encoding them ,mixing them, then uploading them ,only to find when you checked your mix the playback consisted of 3 tunes from the mix,the rest seemingly did not comply why? because 3 or more could be found on some mysterious album within the abyss of the music industry.365 it seems runs the same way.So I thought, I am outa here.

That coupled of course with their endless stream of self recommendation on about every 3 tunes, but the poor webcaster could not advertise,oh no they remain firmly handcuffed?
Then there was the issue of ones website. You could not launch the player from your site if it contained adverts.Heavens preserve us that we may make a dime every 2 weeks.

The wecaster could put together a good package and all tunes played could be purchased from the player, but not for the benefit of the caster.

The other issue is that some servers go to great pains to tell you the cost of setting up you own radio station?thats all very fine if its relevant to ones situation, but its not as a radio station reaps the rewards of its efforts and has control over all aspects of the broadcast including content ,delivery and regularity.

The final irony is that you pay for all this. Its time some of us webcasters woke up and stopped supplementing big business out of our passion and pockets, because without us they would be impotent.
