All was going well yesterday, (for our annual sit down thanksgiving dinner for thirteen people). But then as luck would have it, our oven conked out only one hour into cooking the turkey. But then our lucky turned again, when we learned our neighbor had done a slow overnight cook of their turkey, leaving their oven available for our turkey, which is where we finished cooking it. Of course I had to run across the street every half hour to baste the bird, but in the end. It turned out to be one of the tastiest birds we’ve ever had. Anyway, it sure is nice to have friends. JC |

QUOTE (Patch @ 21-Nov-2008, 12:26 PM) | Crude closed below $50.00 a barrel for the first time since 2001. Gas prices are now falling faster than the price of crude which puts refiners in a bind. I saw on gas buddy that the Kansas City price for gas was $1.50. It is hard to remember that far back!
Glenn Beck got so depressing today, I had to turn him off.
Slàinte,
Patch |
I wouldn’t be surprised if the price of crude was deliberately dropped by the oil companies, so that the public will for get about building hybrid’s and electric cars, (that is if we still have a car industry left). I think it’s their way of sucking every last cent out of us.

No Patch it’s not just you …
Jillian,20-Nov-2008, 08:34 PM]You forgot to throw in some Somalian pirates ...what's their angle?
Hi Jill; I think the pirates are suffering from Robin Hood Syndrome, (only on water). You know…Doing what ever it takes to survive.

QUOTE (TheCarolinaScotsman @ 31-Oct-2008, 08:17 AM) | Actually, the area I was in started losing textile plants in the mid to late sixties. A lot of the smaller mills were being bought out by the giants or closing their doors. When the big guys bought one of the small mills, the little guys production was moved to a big plant and the small mill closed anyway. Many of the small mill towns were left with nothing. |
So true Carolina. Meanwhile, urban sprawl and “corporate malls” are in the process of squeezing out Main Street, and the middle class. JC

QUOTE (valpal59 @ 29-Oct-2008, 04:33 PM) | I am getting to the point where I do not believe anything anyone says anymore.
Val |
I don't believe you Val.
Isn't it intresting that McCain has yet to say the words "Middle Class" during his entire campain.
I wonder why?

QUOTE (Patch @ 29-Oct-2008, 11:26 AM) | I consider him one of the good politicians.
One of the best things I heard out of Obama was he would not rule out prosecuting ANY member of the present administration for crimes committed in the course of their duties. I will not hold my breath waiting though.
I would not be opposed to releasing non violent prisoners to make room for our current crop of potential white collar criminals. When financial institutions take bail out money and then pay bonuses or refuse to lend, they were not worth saving!! That is why the bail out will not work! The law was written with no real protection to insure the money was properly used. It is turning out to be a corporate gift.
Maybe we could build a few tent jails with a couple in the North for the worst offenders.
Slàinte,
Patch |
Thanks for the laugh Patch; I needed it. JC |

QUOTE (MacFive @ 28-Oct-2008, 05:31 PM) | I heard tonight that they first said if you made $250,000 or less you would get a tax break....then it was $200,000 and now Biden said $150,000.
I don't believe all of this talk about tax breaks. Thats what they do to get into office and then they will say because of the unusual financial condition they won't be able to follow through on tax breaks. |
Hi Paul; So let me ask you all out there, how many of you make 150 grand a year, much less 250? (I know I never did.) And all though Obama may not be able to deliver on cutting tax’s for the dwindling middle class in this country, (because of the state of our economy), at least I agree with his thinking. Remember when Bush senior said…”No new taxes”. And finely, isn't it ironic that we’re being bailed out by communist China. So maybe the answer is somewhere in the middle. JC

QUOTE (Patch @ 28-Oct-2008, 07:53 PM) | Kucinich is a Democrat Rep. from North East Ohio. Not always in step with his party but watching out for the welfare of his constituents.
Any group taking bail out money should have NO bonuses! Indictment and prosecution seem more appropriate.
Slàinte,
Patch |
Thanks Patch; But I was kidding when I asked who Kucinich was; he was my first choice from the get go, and I think that his constituency is just a microcosm of most of the people in this country.
As for indicting and prosecuting these crooks, I couldn’t agree more. JC |

QUOTE (Rindy @ 28-Oct-2008, 04:59 PM) | It's dry scalp time here. Anyone have a favorite dandruff shampoo that works good for you? Any tips or secrets to share on keeping the white flakes away?
Slainte |
Rindi; I’ve found that if you spend all of your time, scrubbing any shampoo, deeply into the scalp, dandruff isn’t a problem.

So now I hear that 70 billion dollars, out of the 700 billion given in the bailout, will be going to bonuses. Who’s Kucinich? |

QUOTE (TheCarolinaScotsman @ 25-Oct-2008, 01:25 PM) | I know this isn't exactly what y'all were speaking of, but I want to get it off my chest. Come the first of November, my house will be in foreclosure. (It was in foreclosure back in the summer, but we managed to get a forebearance. That is up last day of October.) Was the lender "creative"? No. Was I irresponcible? No. For medical reasons, I haven't worked for two years. I have applied for disability, but the request is held up somewhere in the great bureaucracy. The disability payments every month would mean we could make the payments OK. Folks who did get in over their heads will likely get some help, but I'm screwed. |
I’m so sorry to hear that Carolina. These are truly dark days. JC
