When you go shopping do you look for name brands first (example: Polo, Ralph Lauren,Nautical, Tommy, etc) or do you just go in and look for something that just fits? Do you look on the sale rack? Annabelle
I never look for the trendy names. I look for the names I know are of high quality. I can't see spending $20 to $30 (US) more for a pair of jeans just because they say Tommy Hilfiger on them. Besides, I only buy when clothes are on sale.
I remember when the Sergio Valente jeans were the rage in the '80s. I always thought they looked... well... not as cool as the ppl who wore them probably thought they did.

Normal is a relative term. For some reason it is not a term my relatives use to describe me.
all that "brand" hype is annoying me frankly. I go and look for the stuff I like not for a name. And I don't want to pay extra for a name either... it's awful. Whatever I like I buy, finished.

I could care less what 'brands' clothes are. I wear what I like, and is affordable. I do perfer button fly to zippers though..... Those new fangled inventions.... the zipper! HA.... like that will ever catch on! LOL!

I buy what I can afford and it's not the Tommy or the other big names. Personally I think a person is buying the name, not necessarily the quality.

I couldn't agree more. Why someone would pay so much for a name is beyond me. Why do they anyways? I never have understood that. My wife is more likely to buy into that for me, but only if it's on sale!

Me too, and my budget usually doesn't allow for name brands - price is the big consideration. But I admit that I've always liked LLBean jeans because they're true to size and so I do occasionally splurge on a pair for meself. (Last time I ordered, they were about $35 to $40) And I confess that recently a Coldwater Creek store opened up not too far from where I live, and I blew nearly $60 on the best fittin' pair of jeans I ever covered my bum with. Soft as butter, perfect fit, and now they're the ones I reach for nearly every day! Maybe there is something to this name-brand stuff after all.

Even still LL BEan, and Coldwater Creek and the like are not the advertizing monsters like the others mentioned. And sometime quality is a wee bit more.... I have some Lands End Jeansm my mum bought me for my Bday a few years back. They are still in good shape! A lot of times when you by things like Tommy etc... you are paying for the ammount of advertizing going into the product....
perfume and make up are something else.. I can't use all those high street branches because of an allergy.. =/ if I use mascara of revlons for example my eyes will swell up and look like two giant red raisins... I have to be extremely careful. Same with cheap perfumes.. often there is stuff in there I can't use =(
Inserting a bit of a different perspective here...
I have to wear big & tall mens' sizes (I'm not exactly a lightweight), and many of the name brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Polo & Nautica mainly specialize in making clothes for people who look halfway decent with their shirts off. There is one brand that is exclusive to big & tall men, called Harbor Bay. The shirts are good, but the jeans are rather flimsy.
I don't shop at Casual Male, either-too expensive! I look there, then go to the big & tall mens' department at JCPenney and buy my clothes there.
I do have expensive taste in fragrances, though. I have been known to purchase Cool Water aftershave.

I'm not a prissy missy, so I wear mostly sports type clothing unless it's a special occasion. All of my jeans are LLBean cause they last forever! I pick up shirts here and there. Everything I wear must be made of 100% cotton. No synthetics. Makes me feel like I'm wearing plastic. No Rayon's, wools or furs. My skin is so sensitive to anything like that. So for that reason most everything I wear is LLBean or Landsend sportswear. Annabelle
I do like to buy clothing and such made here in the USA. So many companies are having their merchandise made in other countries and using cheap labor. That really bothers me, I hate it when they take away jobs here in the US and do that.
